I need to be open and honest about holiday seasons at the end of the year, because not being able to ride my bike out when it snows forces you to really stop and think.
Just knowing and understanding your average family is celebrating traditional genocide and wasteful consumerism really sucks.
It is outright, the worst time period out of the entire year for me and so many innocent animals and desperate workers. How can it be that mass murder and exploitation can masquerade as "cheerful" gatherings is beyond me.
Being one of the few who realize this is severely depressing. So naturally, I want to think of solutions to this so that a better world may take its place.
What if Thanksgiving was instead centered around feeding everyone with warm, hearty, vegan stews? How about banning Black Friday and Cyber Monday and replacing it with repairing, recycling and reuse of old hardware? Maybe Christmas could be instead about trading things we already own to someone who actually needs it? Perhaps New Years is not about individual resolutions, but a celebration of milestones for the local, collective community?
These events would be in the truest sense of what holiday spirit really means and the kind of world I would want to live in than the one that exists now.
