I just made a #backup of my discord bot, the dev version. basically, what I did is encrypted the main folder with all the keys an essentials to run it (the folder it was in) which is called gemini-discord-bot as a veracrypt container, put a password and PIM, uploaded it to Google drive.. normally i'd just upload some shit to Google drive directly, but given it has sensitive credentials (such as tokens, aAPI keys, etc) and I don't want those leaked if something shitty happens to Google, I used #veracrypt. #backups #encryption #veracrypt

Oh man - da spielt man tatsächlich mal die ganzen fehlenden Updates für die "Windows 10 Notfall-Installation" ein, die man seit fast 1 1/2 Jahren nicht mehr gestartet hat - und zack hat das Update den #Veracrypt Bootloader gekillt.

Und die Bootreihenfolge im BIOS verändert. (WTF?!)

Auch wenn ich den USB-Stick mit Veracrypt-Rescue daneben liegen habe: Ich habe mich gerade dazu entschieden, das nicht zu reparieren. Offenkundig habe ich keine Notfälle, für die ich ein #Windows bräuchte.
Die Spiele, die ich tatsächlich spiele, laufen mit Lutris und Proton in Linux besser und flüssiger als in Windows.

Aber die 1 TB-SSD könnte ich vermutlich gut für bessere Zwecke verwenden als da ein obsoletes Windows drauf rumgammeln zu haben... (Mal gucken, was mir so einfällt.)

#Linux question: I would like to have a shared partition, on a #DualBoot between Windows 11 and Ubuntu 24, which would be encrypted but still useable (read & write) from both OSes.

It seems that one way to do this is via "Veracrypt" (see this post)- Anyone out there tried that?

Alternatively, it seems you can do it with #BitLocker instead this link. Anyone tried that? It seems... suspiciously simple 😅

@shufflecake Elia and I have bee quite under the water recently, but we've been quietly working to this new release - mostly Elia, TBH :)

In addition to the long due test units and dev guide, we worked a lot on FLUSH and FUA requests for block device I/O. We got SCARY performances, very close and at times beyond dm-crypt in fio tests!

I think it is safe to say that performances won't be our priority from now on (at least for the Lite scheme), and we can keep focusing on new features and the roadmap to our Holy Grail: a fully hidden Linux OS!

atm i am sure of nothing! it's been a frustrating day of complete failure in this present objective. repeating my earlier attempt, but instead of a fedora rawhide DB i used std fedora, & also my existing Debian Sid DB, i "successfully" [as in, no error msgs] installed zulucrypt & all dependencies in both DBs, but then, identically as per the code i posted earlier for the Rawhide DB, these other two also declared the app was not installed [having just installed the bastard], so i could neither manually launch it, nor export it.

otoh, in an actual Fedora Kinoite VM [not DB], running on my KDELinux Host, after installing the same pkg i was able to launch & run it. so for some reason i don't atm understand, the pkg is happy to run in a full system, but not in a DB. that's really upsetting & frustrating.

have you tried Arch-based distros' containers?

well, eg, yesterday i hoped to create a Manjaro DB, coz #veracrypt itself is in its repos, but afaict there is no MJ container, or rather, i do not know how to create one, as my simple attempt:

...just threw errors & failed. Likewise i did not know there was a CachyOS container, & again just now my attempt failed... i think i need to learn how to create the less common DBs, coz atm i seem to not know.

when i do man distrobox-compatibility & review the list, there's no MJ nor Cachy there... 🤯
