Do I remember right that Carol Levin founded the Chelsea Royal Diner? Her mother had owned the property and Carol, among other important duties, was in charge of the kitchen at the old Chelsea House. So, that memory seems to make sense.

As I recall, Joel Cherrington, late of C&S, lived there. Later, I used to see the guy who footraces barefoot coming and going from there. It always amused me to be out jogging and seeing exercise guys driving by in cars.

Marlboro College played a big part in changes to the popular music community in Brattleboro in the 1970s when John Roberts and Tony Barrand joined the Marlboro psychology faculty.
One of my favorite Marlboro College stories has to do with Emmylou Harris being booked there, many years later ... as a SPEAKER. She couldn't believe they weren't looking for her to sing. So, she held her guitar up high while both singing and playing into the same microphone. Emmylou's singing voice was not to be silenced.

Personally, I am not enthusiastic about parading animals through the streets; but I love seeing the old buildings as they looked years ago. One of the other BHS parade photos gave a glimpse of the old Dutch Bake Shop. Another recent post, which it would be my guess was from a parade day, showed Cap'n Bullfrogs Music (last location), where I logged many hours.

Notice that the Super Duper supermarket had been replaced by the P&C by 1975. The P&C subsequently relocated to the former Finast store at the current location of Price Chopper/Market 32.
Somewhat obscured by the P&C sign is a little building that burned down not a lot later. It housed a stereo store and a restaurant.
This photograph, posted by "History of Vermont," shows Dysfunction Junction looking very different from the way it looks today.

Until this Brattleboro Historical Society post, I had no idea Brattleboro streetcars went this far. A photo circulated years ago gave the idea that they only ran the length of Main Street, raising the question of how lazy could local people possibly have been back then. This current post goes far to clear things up.

When researching this building, the Jacob Estey Homestead, in the 1950 US Census, it came as quite a surprise to see that Spero Latchis resided here at that time. As I recall, his occupation was listed as a movie theater operator.
It is hard to imagine life in Brattleboro without The Latchis.
