Vimeo is asking me for age verification to continue access my own files, even if I had this account since 2007. Even if I was 1 year old when I created that account, I'd still be 20 years old now.
So why the ask? What a useless thing.
There used to be a video demonstration of #wmlive at wmlive.sourceforge.net but no more.
The video hosting company #Vimeo started to impose age verification by acquiring biometric data of a face scan via smartphone camera.
So i decided to terminate relations and had them delete my account.

In the long run, i expect to be fully shut out from all these modern technical facilities turning our shared reality into a high tech prison.
I can't ever consent to such blatant tech vigilance measures.
lol #vimeo doesn't let me access the settings page to delete my account before I verify my age? That doesn't sound right? I can't access the films I bought neither. (luckily I downloaded them when they got bought) Shouldn't the age restricted space be only movie watching/browsing?

They are also, if I am not mistaken, the ones that bought #Evernote, so you can imagine what's in store for #Vimeo.
@kottke #BendingSpoons - the undertaker of digital companies.
What do they do with all the user data they collect from #evernote #Komoot and #vimeo ?

I feel like nobody really uses #vimeo itself anymore, but I’m worried about sites like Dropout.TV which use Vimeo OTT *extensively* behind the scenes. Any word on whether they’re seeing any impact by the private equity acquisition?
Hopefully all these companies that are basically built entirely on the back of Vimeo’s platform have some ironclad contracts 👀
Кстати, #vimeo тоже охуело: я не могу войти в свой аккаунт, требует ксиву или скан лица
А у меня там не только мои видео, но и купленные мной тоже
Engadget: Vimeo lays off most of its staff just months after being bought by private equity firm. “Vimeo just got hit by a brutal round of layoffs, according to a report by Business Insider. Staffers are posting on various social media sites that the layoffs have impacted most of the company, including the entire video team. Vimeo is a video-hosting platform, so that sounds bad.”

‘It's good to know the company "remains committed to growing Vimeo" after firing just about everyone that works there. One former employee said on X that it "sucks to see something I built killed by private equity in a technology company skin suit."’

I wonder what private equity has in store? They also own Brightcove, which is basically the building block of every #Roku channel.
Bending Spoons purchased #AOL in October for $1.5 billion and #Vimeo in September for $1.38 billion. Right now, the same group is closing on #Eventbrite, the live events marketplace and website. That service allows users to browse, create, and promote local events. Last year, Meetup.
Before those purchases, they bought several companies that had to do with time tracking, invoicing, expense tracking, time-based reporting, etc.
Vimeo 被收購後大規模裁員 大部分員工連同影片團隊被裁走
