The first member of this family was discovered in 1953.
Most of these infections do not require symptomatic treatment.
With every breathing mask, it's essential to consider that - given the high exposure risk - every mucous membrane should be protected, as airborne pathogens like COVID can also enter through the eye mucous membranes. Personally, I'd rather be on the safe side.
P.S. It also provides better protection against chemical hazards, such as tear gas, for example.
