Fedi, I'm on the hunt for #sports teams, podcasts, accounts, fanclubs, zines, anything sports and leisure-related if and only if it's in #Cymru / #Wales or is connected culturally e.g. London Welsh. Have you seen a cricket team, youth rugby, fishing club, birdwatching group, or esports on the Fediverse?

No? How about music and culture? Bands, clubs, festivals, authors...

🪷Lotus Hall, Wales. Currently abandoned, this large chateau-style Victorian mansion dates back to the 1870s.

The house last served as a private residence in the 1920s. It later became a spa, then a wartime hospital, and finally a girl’s school until a damaging fire in the 1970s.

With signs of roof work last year, perhaps the mansion might be brought back to life soon!

Here's me and my brother circa 1980 for #ThrowbackThursday and this would have been a stop at a service station before passing over the Severn Bridge into dark and scary Wales en route to a ferry crossing from Fishguard or Holyhead to Ireland to visit family.

#Photography #TBT #RiverSevern #SevernBridge #Wales #Ireland #1980s #80s #Eighties

A scan of a colour photograph from around 1980, a little faded with time. We're on a grassy bank that gently slopes down to the left. In the foreground are two young boys aged roughly 5 and 10, both with dark trousers, both with light blue tops although the older boy is wearing a shirt and the younger has a t-shirt with thin jacket over the top. Both boys are also holding large Coca Cola-branded disposable cups, gripping them with both hands and sipping on straws. They've clearly just been to a service station and part of the back of a building that may belong to it is on the left at the bottom of the shallow slope of grass. There are a few people out sitting on the grass so it's a warm enough and pleasant enough day for it although any blue in the sky has been washed out to white with time. Over the boys' shoulders to the right in the distance there are the two upright concrete towers that support a suspension bridge that crosses a river out of view.

#Cardiff Central, Wales’s busiest railway station, is set for a major overhaul after the #UK government approved more than £77 million for the scheme. The project, supported by £40 million from the Cardiff Capital Region City Deal and £21 million from the #Welsh Government, includes a new southern entrance, a larger concourse and an extended platform 0 to boost capacity for the 35,000 daily passengers and major event crowds. The work forms part of a wider £445 million rail investment across #Wales, with construction due to begin in spring 2026 and most work completed by 2029. Ministers said the upgrade will ease congestion, improve accessibility and strengthen links across Wales and the UK, supporting jobs and #economic growth. Additional plans include improved ticket gates, upgraded waiting areas, new retail spaces and better cycle storage, alongside £50 million for a new Cardiff #Metro station.

#Welsh #Transport Secretary Ken Skates has urged the Office of Rail and Road to reverse its decision to cut two Avanti West Coast services in the December timetable. In a letter to the regulator, he said reducing direct trains between Chester and #London Euston, along with the Sunday Holyhead–Euston service, was “very disappointing” for passengers in North #Wales and the border region. He warned that removing the 19:32 Chester–Euston service would lengthen journeys, reduce convenience, and create a double interchange for travellers from North Wales. Skates argued that the changes risk weakening regional competitiveness and contradict the Welsh Government’s efforts to strengthen cross-border links. He described the Holyhead service as essential for supporting tourism and urged the regulator to work with operators to retain both services and protect North Wales’ connectivity to the wider #UK rail network.

Gentle waves of the Dwyryd Estuary stretch out towards a small, green island, surrounded by the sweeping hills of Snowdonia. Rolling slopes dotted with trees and rugged outcrops create a serene #CoastalLandscape, with distant peaks adding dramatic #MountainViews to the horizon. The area around Penrhyndeudraeth lies close to the scenic grounds of Portmeirion, a well-known tourist destination nestled along the estuary. A perfect spot for #ScenicView lovers and #NaturePhotography enthusiasts, the calm waters and open #SeaScape evoke a deep sense of tranquillity.

A calm expanse of water stretches across the foreground, with gentle ripples reflecting the daylight under a partly cloudy sky. Beyond the water lies a small green island with low vegetation, bordered by rocky edges. Rolling hills rise behind it, covered in a mix of grassland and patches of woodland, with some areas appearing darker where the land meets shadow. Further in the distance, taller hills and ridges form a layered backdrop, their slopes varying in shades of green and brown. White clouds drift across the bright blue sky, adding contrast to the landscape. The overall scene is quiet and open, with no visible human activity on the water.
