As described this is my slightly stylized collaged lino block print with an image of the parachute deployed during the descent of the Mars Perseverance rover as it landed on the planet February 18, 2021. The spacecraft team selected the red and white stripes to encode a secret message in binary: "DARE MIGHTY THINGS" along with the latitude and longitude of the Jet Propulsion Labs, in Pasadena, California (34°11’58” N 118°10’31” W). The letters and numbers appear in black. This 8" x 8" print is made by hand on lovely Japanese papers.

For #InternationalCoffeeDay: Once I’ve had a coffee, I can face the day, and contemplate doing things which require higher brain functions, like carving letters in reverse, or the molecular structure of caffeine. This is a linoleum block print, in a rich, dark, coffee-brown on beige (like creamy coffee) coloured Japanese kozo paper, 8” by 10” paper (20.3 cm by 25.4 cm). The print is my illustration of a coffee mug 🧵

A raccoon to appreciate for Raccoon Appreciation Day!

I appreciate raccoons; they are really quite extraordinary. This little guy came to my back door like that to politely inquire where I had moved the compost bin to. I snapped his photo and carved his portrait.

The transverse-banded flower fly and purple coneflowers are native to eastern North America. Each print is made by hand on assorted, beautiful Japanese washi papers and collaged to make the final 8” x 10” image, which are hand-embellished with posca pens.

As described these are 4 drying linocut prints on a table, each 8” x 10” and showing the centre of a purple echinacea flower. The centre of the flower is orange with black outlines and some yellow bits and occupies the lower right corner. Radiating out are several pink and violet petals. The background is green.

Some of his findings are subtly alluded to in the layout of the pea flowers, like a Punnett square depicting a cross between two pea plants heterozygous for purple and white blossoms.

Happy birthday to Dolly the sheep 🐑 ! Dolly, the female sheep born 5 July 1996, was a trailblazer. She was the first mammal to be cloned from an adult somatic cell, using the process of nuclear transfer. This print is one of a kind lino cut with chine collé (collaged rainbow of Japanese kozo #washi papers) & the words “Hello Dolly!” in black, on cream coloured Japanese kozo (or mulberry) paper.⁠
