That would definitely fall under CEII...

@rk @futurebird
#WaterEngineer here.
I heard the call.
NY water absolutely *is* treated - as in disinfected.
It is not filtered and maybe that's what you are thinking of. It is one of only a handful of large metro drinking water systems that are not filtered (Boston, Seattle's Cedar River, and for a little while longer, Portland, Oregon's Bull Run River being some others).

@h2onolan
I was a just-licensed #water design engineer as Caltrans was giving up on the metric system. I had about three years of 305 mm pipes.
Then it was over.
I had mixed feelings. It was great having all of the interconversions make sense while it lasted. But it felt like we were fooling ourselves. The weird pipe sizes were a constant reminder that the rest of US civil engineering wasn't having any.

@Lyle
I'm breathless at the perfection of this post.

And also. Oh man. If you only knew.

In #WaterEngineering, some days it's picking how to retrofit a 100-year old dam to pass woody debris in higher flow events due to climate change.

And some days the important work is comparing notes about the best portable toilet vendors.

In #WaterEngineering, we call that chocolate milk.

@WADeptHealth
Just to put it out there, I am in #WaterEngineering and I receive your emailed newsletters to my work email.
But I would actually read them all the way if you posted here.

I'm working on a project to address a large-ish thing that is rusting faster than it's supposed to. So I hear and read about "this corrosion" every day.

It's not my fault that that's an iconic Goth track in early 90s "alternative" music.

And now, if you're of a certain age, it's stuck in your head, too.

I'm reading a geotechnical report that describes something as a "vertical valve well shaft". This is a report directed at folks whose normal concern is pipes. I am giggling that the author felt the need to use three words out of four that all mean this is something vertical rather than horizontal.
And they were right to do so.

Tonight was the opening of the 'Living Water' exhibition at #UNSW, with exhibits that ranged from marine ecology (living seawalls) to coastal geomorphology (#coastsnap) to groundwater.... that was us. You can read more here and the exhibition is open to the public until November at UNSW in Sydney Australia.

@thebrilliant The first article is a profile of Alyce Lysaght, a water engineer and wahine Māori who is making waves in the sector, partly through her fantastic podcast. Chatting to her was one of my most enjoyable interviews to date #waterengineering #scicomm #science thebrilliant.com/case-studies/
