Keep a look out this week for my upcoming blog post. Come with me and Weird Wiltshire (weird-wiltshire.co.uk/) on an Autumn ramble through the mystic lands of the Uffington White Horse. Hear about the mysterious White Horse and the stories surrounding it, the Ridgeway and Wayland's Smithy.

Just back from a fun afternoon of blog research, foraging and chatting with Weird Wiltshire's Emma. Wayland's Smithy and the Uffington White Horse are just over the border in Oxfordshire. Such fascinating places and steeped in mystery.

Looking back on a family holiday spent riding bikes along Wiltshire byways: mattpedals.bike/a-week-of-wilt. Where else could you take in the world's largest stone circle, a curly whirly brutalist bridge, neolithic long barrow complete with Saxon legend, and a Bronze Age white horse? Plus a great railway path to pop into town. This is why it's one of my favourite parts of the country to ride in.

The entrance of Wayland’s Smithy long-barrow, Wiltshire, England

#StandingStoneSunday #megaliths #WaylandsSmithy

A colour photo of the entrance of Wayland’s Smithy long-barrow. A horizontal limestone slab positioned over two vertical limestone slabs to form a doorway. Another stone slab partially blocks the entrance. Behind, a blue sky and the trees that surround Wayland’s Smithy are just visible. The large upright slabs on the front of the long-barrow are just visible in the front of the photo.

Love that #StandingStoneSunday is a thing!

I hope Wayland’s Smithy counts. Taken on a magical January day with friends back in 2017.

Low winter sunlight shining through skeletal trees casts light and shadow on a group of large standing stones. Three large almost triangular stones strand upright whilst two are lying horizontally. A smaller upright stone is at the far end of the stones. Behind the stones are winter trees the foreground is Earth of a warm brown. The sky is pale blue.
