#WordWeavers 2026-01-21. If in the middle of the book your MC discovered a foundling, what would they do with it?

Well, Medb does come across an orphan at a point. She takes up responsibility and parental duties. She also carries out vengeance for the orphan.

Which will be interesting since Medb has a general disdain for humans, but she is also sharply cognizant that Morgan is an 'innocent' and not even belonging to the humans from Medb's universe.

Many thanks to #SF superstar Maura Dutton for this photo of the two of us at #Carnforth #Library in #Lancashire for my #AuthorVisit Q&A talking about my Ransomed Hearts #Shapeshifter book series. Lots of chat about #ScienceFiction and #Werewolves and a great audience.

#WordWeavers 1.21 — If in the middle of the book your MC discovered a foundling, what would they do with it?

This is such a fantastic question. Alistair would probably take the babe home and pray that Anna wouldn't mind adopting them. (For context, Anna is one his maids.) She has a daughter named Rose, and Alistair would hope she would take the child in, someone who could be an adopted sibling for little Rosie in the future.

#WordWeavers 1.20 — Do you make use of weather in your story? If so, how?

I do. For instance, rain can certainly set the mood for a particular chapter or scene. Weather creates mood, develops characters, and drives plot by acting as a metaphor, antagonist, or reflection of internal states, and it's a tool that I absolutely *love* using within my stories. It plays a key part in Wings of Quiet Longing at some points.

#WordWeavers 1.19 — Who is the most moral character in your story?

Oooh, a very good question. It's definitely Eleanor. She's a goodhearted woman, and one with scruples, strong moral principles, and a lot of love in her heart.

#PennedPossibilities 908 — What was the last reason why your SC saw a “doctor” or someone in the medical field?

Eleanor had a furious cold recently. As for Jonathan, he has a bad knee that keeps acting up.

The majority of the cast of characters aren’t mortal, so they obviously don’t need any medical professionals.

Werewolves have long been feared as evil beasts, but the unique case of Thiess of Kaltenbrun in 17th century Europe challenges this perception. Thiess claimed to be a werewolf fighting the devil and witches to protect the community. connectparanormal.net/2024/01/

#PennedPossibilities 907 — Does your MC have any phobias or irrational fears? What is the origin of this?

Spiders. Ironic for a Creature of the Night, no? He who can rip anything or anyone to shreds is afraid of harmless, minuscule arachnids. Fenella actually thinks it’s hilarious. To be fair, though, she doesn’t know *why* he hates them. His arachnophobia comes from his youth. (It might be explained later in the story, but I’ll at least say this: it has to do with Isma.)

#WordWeavers 2026-01-19: Who is the most moral character in your story?

Morgan, the orphan Medb finds. She is a sort of innocent-neutral

Trinity & Giftzahn have "it's just business" / criminal empire morals e.g. kidnapping people to fight in gladiatorial combat.
- so definitely not high on the list

Medb's morals are rather hard to articulate without over simplifying and misrepresenting them. Rhai'r-tĂr morals are orange/blue, probably more purple/green in nature. And yes this is something I absolutely struggle with writing .

A review by Gill James of 'Fight for the Future', the first book in my four book Ransomed Hearts series about a #Shapeshifter family in #Lancashire #Werewolves

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Jeanette Greaves really handles point of view well and we get very close to the protagonist and even the antagonist in some scenes. It is easy to empathise with the characters. Greaves has created a whole world with a sound theology and is very disciplined in controlling this world. Add to all of that a fabulous story that ends in a satisfying way but also leaves us hungry for more. I can’t wait to read the next two volumes.

906 — What is your SC’s response to stress?

I'll take Frances as my SC in this case, from 'Fight for the Future'.

She grew up on a farm with six younger sisters and loving parents, so she looks first for someone to lean on, but then she steps up without complaint. She'll retreat at first from overwhelming stress, but gather herself and come back to face it.

#WordWeavers 1.18 — Your antagonist gets a call or message from their mother. How do they respond?

Oof, okay, I can't answer this one. That's the first time that's ever happened. Not only does this story take place in 1890, but the majority of my cast are supernatural beings, either vampires or werewolves, and that means their families are loooooong dead, sorry to say. I will, however, say this: Duncan's mother would be so disappointed in him. Then again, she felt that very same way while she was alive and he was still a mortal as well, so let's keep that in mind.

#PennedPossibilities 906 — What is your SC’s response to stress?

Mayhem. (Maybe murder? Who knows.)

In all seriousness, she tries to stay calm at first. And if that doesn’t work, then it’s probably time to maim someone.

#PennedPossibilities 905 — Is your MC responsible for anyone other than themselves? How do they feel about this?

Yup. Medb ends up taking care of a girl that was orphaned.

Taking care of her fine.
With how she was orphaned... There will be blood spilled

#PennedPossibilities 905 — Is your MC responsible for anyone other than themselves? How do they feel about this?

Ooooh, I wanna answer this one truthfully, but it would contain major spoilers for readers, so I can’t. Instead, I’ll say this: Alistair is responsible for Duncan, Fenella, and the servants at his castle. He takes care of them, the servants are under his employ, and that’s that. He sired Duncan, and he takes care of Fenella with every bit of himself. So yes, he’s responsible for far more than just himself, but he wouldn’t have it any other way.

#WordWeavers 1.16 — If your MC had one photograph near where they sleep, what or who would it be?

It would be a small painting, instead. It would probably be one that he worked on for Fenella. In fact, I might have to write in this detail now.

#WordWeavers 1.15 — MC POV: What’s the most exciting thing that ever happened to you?

Oooh, there's something I'd love to answer this prompt with but it would be the worst kind of spoiler given to readers, and I have quite a few here on Masto. I'll behave, instead.

Alistair: Meeting Fenella. We didn't care for each other in the beginning but there was something there, something inexplicable. I couldn't tell you what it was, but it was there for us. We became close friends not long after. It was the first exciting thing that happened to me in a long time.

#WordWeavers 1.14 — If your MC lived your antagonist’s life, what would they be like?

Evil and morally repugnant? My antagonists are corrupt and unhinged. They do things that are just plain wrong.

More to the point, being honest here, if Alistair was living the lives of either of the antagonists, he would turn things around and change his life. Here's the thing, he's a *good* man. He would live his life differently than Isma or Duncan.
