Economics 101. Don’t listen to private sector gripes because in their misuse of the term, Productivity to them is what is left from the sale of a widget when all of the costs have been taken out. From this perspective, private enterprise is free to argue for lowering the cost of production by whatever means - exploitation of workers chief amongst the solutions they come up with.

Whereas in economic terminology, #productivity gains ought to result from the elimination of inefficient means of production through reinvestments of profits into more efficient tools and processes of production.

Therefore, it is a bit rich for a profit driven organisation to whinge about low productivity when all they are interested in is increasing profits and distributions to their shareholders FFS.

#Caboolture #CBA #ATM won't accept my #auswidebank #debitcard so I have to transfer funds to #westpac #debitcard to use on CBA ATM to withdraw #cash - very messy - CBA is Commonwealth Bank of Australia #banks - so shops in Caboolture that only accept cash make it quite hard to make payment except using the above method - it would be better for them to setup a #square card reader for #EFTPOS and accept card payments

Years ago we banked with a building society. Great service, lots of branches. They merged with another. Still good. They became a bank. Service declined. Closures. Acquired by Westpac, but remained "independent". 🤔 Remaining branches were soon shared with Westpac (ie, closed). ATMs all replaced with ones that charge. Now my bank's logo has largely disappeared, service, minimal though it is, is shithouse.

Enshittification has been achieved.

Congratulations to Westpac Australia for announcing their annual report today.

A nice tidy AUD $887 million extracted from the New Zealand line item, to be redistributed to shareholders at 72 cents per share.

Could have made more money but there was a “deterioration in portfolio quality” (i.e. they’ve already taken all the Kiwis spare cash and some customers are now broke).

Another pet peeve is #Westpac forcing me to #phone them for basic, routine changes and queries. I can't even send a secure message in their online #banking.

isn't it interesting how the interest rate on my #Westpac savings account is still 1.10% and yet the interest on my mortgage is right up at 5.89% ... funny how they can't wait to offload one hike onto us customers but not the other ...

So, #Westpac wants to close branches, and offers to help a 93 years old customer go online?
