For a long time i thought the web was lost to the big corps... until i rediscovered that the #dillo browser got resurrected and is again under active maintenance, that with #wiby there is a search engine that is especially targetting "oldschool" websites and that mastodon is quiet useable with #RSS

So I am thinking about launching a #FOSS #searchengine locally. It would cache so when I don't have internet access, I could browse the small web and enjoy great articles. I could also give access to interested friends and family.

Do you have suggestions other than #yacy and #wiby?

Yacy seems better but the search quality is not good. And regarding wiby, it uses #sql for the database :/

PS: The blogs which do #linkdump like @82mhz would be a very good seed. Already roasted meat ready to be served :)

@nathan and by following this link then clicking on the loupe icon 🔍 and choosing the “Add search engine "Wiby"” (not the “Add search engine "Mycroft Project" one, even though they have the same icon before installation), you can even install #Wiby in #Mozilla #Firefox and this took me almost an entire hour to get right-ish (relying on the Mycroft site to httpify it for us)… may the Firefox developers burn for eternity for all the antifeatures!

@hurgusburgus @rridley @mxtthxw ~6-12 months ago #wiby.me worked over tor consistently. Now it’s apparently hit or miss. The day I wrote the tweet you replied to, Wiby blocked tor. Today it worked. We can’t know exactly what’s going on in that black box but it’s certainly fragile & fussy. Perhaps rather than blocking tor it's blocking regions where there are a lot of tor exit nodes.
