Die gehörnten Mauerbienen sind bei uns im Garten immer mit die ersten Wildbienen, die man findet. Aber auch auf die werde ich wohl noch ein bisschen warten müssen. 😄

Vor einer Pflanze zu sitzen, wie hier vor dem Bergbohnenkraut, und die Bestäuber zu fotografieren, wie diese Honigbiene und die kleine schwarze Schmalbiene daneben. Das sind Momente, die mich glücklich machen.

Nahaufnahme. Eine aufrechte, verzweigte Pflanze mit kleinen schmalen Blättern und vielen kleinen weißen Blüten. My linocut print shows a section of leaf with an alfalfa leaf cutter bee in the act of cutting its telltale half-moon shape. The leaf is a pale green with dark green veins and patterns and much paler obverse site. The bee is black and pale yellow. My print is on cream coloured Japanese paper.

Als ich eine Biologin antraf, die die Bienen beklebte, erzählte sie mir, dass sie die Arten zählten & erforschten, wie weit Wildbienen fliegen.

Eine Bienennisthilfe für Wildbienen. Ein Baumstamm, in den Löcher gebort und nummeriert wurden. An einem in der unteren Mitte des Bildes sitzt eine Wildbiene mit pelzigen, rotbraunen Hinterleib. Auf ihrem Körper klebt die Nummer 23. Die bereits verschlossenen Löcher darüber sind nummeriert mit 6, 12, 21.

Manche Namen taugen auch als Beleidigung, zum Beispiel Dunkelflügelige Buckelbiene. Sie wird auch Riesen-Blutbiene oder Sphecodes albilabris genannt und gehört zu den sogenannten Kuckucksbienen, die ihre Eier rotzfrech in fremde Nester legt. Zu ihren bevorzugten Opfern gehören die Frühlings-Seidenbiene und verschiedene Furchenbienen.

Some names can also be used as insults, for example, the German name of Sphecodes albilabris translates to dark-winged humpback bee. They belong to the so-called cuckoo bees, which lay their eggs in other bees' nests. Their preferred victims include the spring mining bee and various sweat bees.

Two bees- a smallish pale gold and black bumblebee and a leaner, smoother (low pale fuzz mostly on thorax) black leafcutter bee with thin white bands on abdomen, are busily working on a cluster of purply flower heads. Each 'flower' is actually a composite of many tiny florets which are light purple tubes emerging from a fuzzy white base. From the purple tubes, dark violet/nearly black thin structures- like grains of wild rice- emerge and those are tipped with the white actual flower sexy bits. The background is blurred green foliage, some sunlit some dark shadowed. There is a white border and in lower right in loose script the words 'bees love Saussureas!' in white.
