#Windows 10 support will be ending in October 2025. My Dell laptop with Windows 10 OS won't be getting a Windows 11 OS update. So, I am planning to replace Windows 10 OS to #Ubuntu 24.04 LTS OS.

@Erik Jonker My PC can run Windoze 11 just fine, but I won't upgrade from 10.

The only use case I have for Windoze is playing a few games, not something I do a lot.

The 2 games I play, Civilization VI and Cities:Skylines 2, run on Steam, and a colleague of mine already showed me they also run fine on Steam on Linux.

I never took the effort to install Steam on Linux yet, because I already had a working gaming setup. But now that support for Windoze 10 ends in October, I'm done.

No way I'm upgrading to the new version that requires me to provide MS with a lot of private information, and that needs an MS account for all kinds of things. No way.

So after October this year, my home will be completely free of MS products. Finally.

Thanks, MS, I needed that last nudge.

On my neighborhood walks I sometimes pass by this residential window that has displayed Betty Boop dolls, dressed in fashions from various eras, for as long as I can remember. This is just one windowpane of a larger bay window with many different Bettys. I’ll try to get a good shot of the whole thing one day.

Ist das immer noch eine vernünftige Kombination in 2025, (leider) unter #Windows? Wie schaut es mit dem #Latex Workshop Plugin für #VSCode aus, sollte ich mir das anschauen? Gab es sonst noch was im Bezug auf IDEs oder Distos in den letzten 10 Jahren, was ich mir anschauen sollte?

Time to revive my rusty #LaTeX skills from 10 years ago for a small conference paper. In 2015 I used #TexLive + #Texstudio for scientific writing in the engineering field (so some equations, some plots).
Is that still the way to go in 2025 (on #Windows unfortunately)? What about the #LaTeX Workshop Plugin for #VSCode, is it worth a look? Any other development wrt to IDEs or distributions in the last 10 years I should have a look at?
