Orange County Public Schools has ended West Orange High School’s first and only “Witchy Wednesday” after Liberty Counsel objected to the student-led segment. The district cited Supreme Court rulings in deciding the student-created announcements could not continue under faculty supervision on the school’s broadcast system.

Blodeuwedd, the flower goddess of Welsh myth, isn’t exactly a witch fit for #witchwednesday, I know. However, like most goddesses from myth, and most witches, she is punished and persecuted for trying take charge of her love life. Created by men for the sole purpose of being a wife to another man, when she tries to escape her fate, Blodeuwedd is turned into an owl as punishment. That is a VERY LOOSE summary (there’s also a murder plot that Blodeuwedd tries to pull off in all of this) but you get my drift. So yes, Blodeuwedd is not a witch, but as a magical being struggling against the patriarchy, I thought she was fitting for #witchwednesday
