Does anyone have the knowledge to do a bit of free online consulting on professional laser hair removal machines for me?
I'm planning on starting a #workercoop trans beauty salon.

Worker Co-op Weekend
Thornbridge Outdoors, Peak District
16-18 May 2025
Our theme this year is about building power through mutual learning and coalition. Worker cooperation is not just a way to improve the everyday lives of workers. Co-ops can strengthen the wider movement for social, economic and climate justice. In the process, we are building the infrastructure for goods and services that underpins a different kind of society.
Worker Co-op Weekend 2025 Announcement!
Our annual Spring gathering brings together worker cooperators and supporters to reconnect, celebrate, be inspired, learn - and do business.
If you believe in the #Fediverse , if you believe in #decentralization and removing power from authoritarians and their enablers, why don't you believe in doing so in your workplace?
Why does the owner get to sit back on their laurels while YOU make THEM money?

With all my random thoughts about worker cooperatives, I haven't specifically mentioned what I have in mind.
I'm kind of a broken-down old sysadmin. I can't really code and I'm not an engineer, and a lot of the intermediate-level type of work I was doing has been offshored or has morphed into SRE/DevOps.
Most of the clouds now in use, AWS, Azure, VMWare and even Google, are proprietary, and I loathe what they stand for.
@tinker I've also been frustrated with the enthusiasm for the CEO killer, because the problem isn't some stuffed shirt.
My sister, who almost died from medical austerity, votes right-wing. The real problem is how the system gets inside our heads to gain our support in ways we don't always understand.
I agree that the way forward is for people to come together and build alternatives to organizations which have no incentive to take care of us.
There is a third option beyond state ownership and shareholder owned corporations; it's worker and consumer cooperatives. #communism #capitalism #mutualism #workercoop #workerowned #anarchism #socialism #marketsocialism
These kind of events organized by USFWC are a great place to ask more details about how to get started building a worker co-operative https://info.usworker.coop/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=672
Policies that result in the median voter paying more #taxes are difficult. The #democrats need a #policy vision that doesn't raise taxes on the median #voter
Policy ideas
- Tax exemptions/deductions for #WorkerCooperatives and investment in worker #coops
- Special tax exempt status for #WorkerCoops
- Use corporate tax revenue to buy some shares of that company and put those in a trust democratically governed by workers in that company.
As they say on The Mandalorian: “This is the way.”

“‘I don’t think you solve the systemic economic problems just with worker co-ops,’ [John Duda of @redemmas] says. ‘There needs to be a larger context in which worker co-ops are embedded — a larger fight. But I think there’s something really important and really precious about worker co-ops as a laboratory or a kind of learning.’”

I've been trying to document my learnings from starting a worker coop. Check out my "Year Two" post below!

We need to have a lot more discussion about a longer term path towards becoming a worker cooperative. And providing support to get there.
There are details around financing, legal structure, startup vs existing, decision making, and more that have to get solved. This stuff takes time and in some cases a certain scale.

“Independent companies… are following a model pioneered… by an Oregon produce distributor (Sundance Natural Foods)… U.S. business owners choosing to sell or gift their company to a trust, instead of selling to a person or another company, so they can protect its values... The model is called a “perpetual purpose trust”.”
