Feelin' Groovy is the debut album by the American sunshine pop band Harper's Bizarre, released in 1967.

Feelin' Groovy Review by Matthew Greenwald

...Enter producer Lenny Waronker and session musician/arranger/songwriter/general musical architect Van Dyke Parks. The two of them brought then-drummer Ted Templeman up to the front as co-lead vocalist, along with Dick Scoppettone, and created a soft rock identity for the group, renaming them Harpers Bizarre...songs by Van Dyke Parks ("Come to the Sunshine"), Randy Newman ("Debutante's Ball"), and others. An excellent and definitive slice of California soft pop.

“When my father, Hal, #CarolKaye, Plas, Don Randi, Joe Osborn, Leon Russell, Glen Campbell and the other musicians of the time tried to break into the studio scene, they would take any recording dates that the older and more established musicians would never take.

They took what they could get. Many of the early dates were non-union and rock & roll. If you were an older player and a movie call came up, you wouldn’t blow a week of work on that film for a $20 song demo.

So, rumor has it, Hal heard one of the older guys say to another older musician, ‘These guys are going to wreck the business playing this rock & roll shit.’ And that is the genesis of the term.” — #DennyTedesco

In 1964, #BrianWilson decided to stop touring with the #BeachBoys after experiencing a panic attack due to the band’s heavy schedule. He focused on his production, & in 1965 started work on the landmark experimental pop album #PetSounds. Wilson was the mastermind behind the Pet Sounds sessions, working alongside famed studio musicians the #WreckingCrew. At the time of its release, Pet Sounds was considered a relative commercial flop & critical failure [can you imagine?].

What's New... Barney Kessel? released on Mercury in 1969

Barney Kessel (October 17, 1923 – May 6, 2004) was an American jazz guitarist. Known in particular for his knowledge of chords and inversions and chord-based melodies, he was a member of many prominent jazz groups as well as a "first call" guitarist for studio, film, and television recording sessions. Kessel was a member of the group of session musicians informally known as the Wrecking Crew.

Jim Sullivan, U.F.O., 1969 on Monnie Records

im Sullivan’s U.F.O. originally came out on Monnie back in 1969 (basically a self-funded pressing), and then was reissued with the title Jim Sullivan (with a different mix) by Century City Records in 1970. It was out of print until Light in the Attic reissued it in 2010, forty years later.

Sullivan famously disappeared in New Mexico in 1975, adding some romance and intrigue – especially when one of the theories is alien abduction, given the album’s title.

Musicians on the LP include some of the Wrecking Crew: Earl Palmer, Don Randi, Jimmy Bond, Lyle Ritz, and Max Bennett.

My copy is the Vinyl Me Please reissue made by Light in the Attic, as part of the VMP Essentials track (VMP E081) which came out in 2019. Reissue was produced by Matt Sullivan (co-found of Light in the Attic – no relation to Jim) with sound restoration/mastering by Dave Cooley.
