For those who don't speak German: "Tatort" ("crime scene") is a very popular crime series on German telly. It's been going since 1970!
"Bratort" isn't a real word, but literally means "frying location". Great for a currywurst van.
And, yes, Germans do have a sense of humour. 😁

When translating into certain languages, #DeepL offers a switch for ‘formal’ or ‘informal’ language. I assumed that this means that pronouns like tu/du/jij etc. will be used in informal mode, whereas vous/Sie/u etc. will be used in formal mode.
Recently I encountered an ‘informal’ #translation of ‘Please complete all content above before continuing’ into German: ‘Mach erst mal das da oben, bevor du weitermachst.’ (Roughly: ‘Do the stuff above before moving on’)

Isn't it nice when people of all nationalities laugh about the same thing?
A brave guy from London has made it his mission to taste foreign food he's never had before. Worse: he can't even read what's in the tin. Hence the title of his social media channels: "Food I Can't Read".
The result is often hilarious (and, don't worry, his producer checks it's safe to eat beforehand).
What's even nicer is that he's gained an international fan base now. Example: a teenager in Munich went into an Asian supermarket and started singing the theme tune. A few aisles further down, a stranger continued the melody!
So, here he is, eating a German "Senfei". I won't give too much away, just that I'd never eat a tinned one, either. They're alright if you make them from scratch.

I've been living in the UK for a long time, but I still don't eat rice or peas like this. 😅 Not entirely sure how this man can keep everything from dropping straight on his immaculate table.
In Germany, we turn the fork around and use it a bit like a miniature shovel. Less dainty, more efficient.
To be fair, not many of my British friends eat rice like this, either. Do you?

If you go to a conference which is held on a Saturday and if this is work related, should you get a day off to compensate?
When I was a teacher I was ok with getting no additional time off because Saturdays were the only days most teachers could attend a PD event. But now I’m in a regular office job I have different expectations.
So I registered for Elevate 2025 (an online event organized by RWS) and was able to catch two talks on Day 3, which was the Educate Day (besides Innovate and Motivate). The talks did mention Trados, ofc, but were pretty interesting nevertheless.
One was about updating assessments for translation students in view of #GenAI. The other was about #accessibility CAT tools offer to visually impaired translators, with a focus on Trados.
A freelance role with fixed days/hours is not freelance. It's a job without a pension or statutory sick pay.
Heute habe ich die 500-Seiten-Übersetzung abgeliefert, die mich die letzten paar Monate auf Trab gehalten hat. Ist nicht so, dass ich jetzt ohne Arbeit dastehe, aber vorerst besteht die Aussicht, dass es etwas ruhiger werden könnte.
Jedenfalls warten Trisda, Echse und #Meni darauf, dass ich ein bisschen Hirnschmalz für sie übrig habe.

We've all heard of fake jobs and phishing attempts. But did you know there are also fake job seekers who use AI to mask their real identity?
