Someone more competent and familiar with x-screensaver than me could probably make some thing out of this. #xscreensaver #linuxmint

Wayland schmayland, wake me up when there's Wscreensaver
#xscreensaver
So #XScreensaver has become pretty annoying following some change in #X11 rules or something; it frequently doesn't capture the first few keystrokes if just start typing when the screen is locked and powered off (but the computer is awake). I have to hit a key, wait for it to wake up, see if the key took, and then continue. (I frequently just hit shift, so I can simply start typing when it wakes.
Does someone know how to fix this, or have a suggestion for a replacement? #AskFedi
ohno! #xscreensaver does not work on #wayland! whattaimgonnado!
note: the X wayland layer is not enough.
Is there no #XScreenSaver hack screenshot gallery? Either that or my search-engine-fu is very low this morning...
I miss the simpler days of #YearOfTheLinuxDesktop when I could run #XScreenSaver as a root window background.
Does anyone know if there's a way to enable a sensible on-screen keyboard with #XScreensaver? (this might be a question for @jwz).
This is for use on a tablet, there's no physical keyboard unless I plug one in, and that's a hassle when you're out and about.
At the moment I'm battling the default #KDE lock screen and its rather crippled on-screen keyboard (see https://discuss.kde.org/t/customise-or-replace-the-on-screen-keyboard-on-the-lock-screen/32739/7) which is in my opinion, totally unfit for the purpose of screen locking as it does not allow convenient entry of a secure password.
Switching the lock screen to using `xscreensaver` is a very viable option: if I can enable an on-screen keyboard.
I don't mind what the on-screen keyboard is. It could be `onboard`, it could be `qtvirtualkeyboard` (I think that's what KDE is using), it could be `xvkbd`⦠don't care⦠so long as it displays a "standard" (for me that's US layout but I'll define "standard" as one matching 99% of the keyboards you can buy at a shop) key layout with letters, symbols and digits in their usual places.
I otherwise do use `xscreensaver` on non-tablets, and it is actually my preferred option. This machine though, has special needs.
the AI in #Xscreensaver pac-man is stressful to watch, maybe at some point I can hack on it
also the level generator just generated a map with a zero-thickness wall in the maze, never seen that before π
No, I'm currently using #XScreenSaver as my phone wallpaper ;)
Good old #Kumppa. I remember enjoying this #XScreensaver on my 166 MHz Pentium I laptop 25 years ago.
Saw this morning that the new light phone III is OLED-based (I've long said that OLED coupled with a well-tuned dark-mode OS could really rival e-ink), and I felt like reinventing my own Android phone similarly.
I replaced my cat photo wallpaper with a simple #XScreensaver, installed Arcticons, and turned on grayscale mode in Android (it was already dark mode).
I'm loving it!

For a screen saver. A privacy policy. For a screen saver.
This pantomime where Google pretends to care about your welfare would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad, but here we are anyway.
Ok, strap in!

Just got @jwz's #xscreensaver installed on my phones. No idea why it took me so damn long to try this out - it's awesome. #cthulhu #tentacles
Because of course a screen saver absolutely has to have a privacy policy:
