OK, Edmonton, only a week late, here's my June arts events calendar with ideas to keep you busy for the rest of the month!

The big hockey games are Monday June 9, Thursday 12, Sat 14, & maybe Tues 16 & Fri 20.

There are various Pride-themed events in June, although the official festival isn't until August.

It's also Indigenous History Month, leading up to National Indigenous People's Day on June 21. The city has a calendar of events.

Just some of the magical moments from this year's Heart of the City Festival on May 31 and June 1. The volunteer crew did an amazing job despite numerous challenges, and the festival once again kicked off the summer with music, art, spoken word, workshops, and more.

Attention #YEGtheatre fans & practitioners:

If you would happily go to the theatre once a week, and/or to Fringe Fest shows 5+ times a day — if only you could afford it — you can apply to be a juror for the Sterling Awards (Edmonton's annual theatre awards), and get complimentary tickets in exchange for your thoughtful assessments. Priority to those with professional theatre experience or from under-represented communities.

Hey folks! I don't think I'm going to get my usual #YEGarts/#YEGmusic calendar out this month. But y'all should still get out & enjoy it. (With anti-histamines, if needed.)

Hockey playoffs are on, of course. And there's an assortment of film festivals & craft markets. The last weekend (May 30−June 1) also has a children's festival in St Albert, Drag Festival in Churchill Square, & Ukrainian festival in Borden Park.

PS, May 11 is Mother's Day. May 19 is Victoria Day.

Some more photos from the Art and Artifacts Jane's Walk I attended today, hosted by @ian_hosler (don't think he's very active here though).

The walk took a look at the artworks at the Indigenous Art Park ᐄᓃᐤ (ÎNÎW) River Lot 11∞, in Queen Elizabeth Park, the history of the former QE Pool, and then into the City of Edmonton Archives Artifacts Centre.

Here's a few of the art pieces at ÎNÎW. See alt text for some additional info.

Gaze Upon the Trees - Andrew Balfour

I'm proud that @chronosvocalensemble comissioned this work, and my voice is in the reference recording for the work. It has since been recently performed at the national ACDA conference.

Balfour is a Canadian Indigenous composer, and it's always a joy to work with him.

Fun fact: the working title of this work was "waterfall in spring".
