Summer means the return of daytime GreenShack shows for kids in city parks.

Edmonton! It's 1 week to Canada Day. (Where did June go?)

With July 1 on a Tuesday, the usual long weekend bar events are scarce, but there are multiple choices for free family-friendly entertainment around town:

The Alberta Legislature has afternoon concerts and family activities, noon to 5pm.

Over in (& around) Churchill Square, The Works Art & Design Festival has music from noon to 9pm, plus art exhibits & workshops.

Apparently The Works Art & Design Festival is holding their live music stage in Churchill Square (there was no info on the website when I checked earlier in the month!). Concerts every evening this week, 5-10pm, plus afternoons on the weekend and on Canada Day (next Tuesday).

And of course there are the usual indoor & outdoor art exhibits (although check the hours on the galleries if you're heading to an evening show).

OK, Edmonton, only a week late, here's my June arts events calendar with ideas to keep you busy for the rest of the month!

The big hockey games are Monday June 9, Thursday 12, Sat 14, & maybe Tues 16 & Fri 20.

There are various Pride-themed events in June, although the official festival isn't until August.

It's also Indigenous History Month, leading up to National Indigenous People's Day on June 21. The city has a calendar of events.

Just some of the magical moments from this year's Heart of the City Festival on May 31 and June 1. The volunteer crew did an amazing job despite numerous challenges, and the festival once again kicked off the summer with music, art, spoken word, workshops, and more.

Edmonton! It's almost June, and summer festival season is ramping up. I'm working on a monthly calendar post, but for now, here's what's happening this weekend:

International Children's Festival in St Albert has a mix of free & paid activities aimed at toddlers to pre-teens.
Edmonton Drag Festival in Churchill Square has performances from noon to late. Free admission (VIP and meet & greet tix available).
