One thing I appreciate about design-based traffic calming measures is that they make it much easier to remember to slow down as they tend to be present over long distances, versus one blink-and-you-miss-it speed sign often nestled among bunch of other signage.
Now that we have three different speeds for residential areas, I very much appreciate the extra visual cues!
Traffic lights along Valley Line at McIntyre Road and 75St are out of service. Yes, the train is also yielding. #yegtraffic
So you know where they get it from.
Every light down 95 Ave in Edmonton is out, meaning every intersection is a 4 way stop, traffic is backed up, and accidents abound.
Traffic lights are out in parts of Mill Woods. Treat these as FOUR-WAY STOPS! I had to honk my way through an intersection to left turn because vehicles were not stopping even though those in front of them DID stop.
Hey #yeg? Did we all forget how to drive in the snow in the last five days?
Be careful on the roads. With this being the first above-freezing rainfall after winter, I noticed many drivers are speeding to get a free car wash. 🤣 #yegwx #yegtraffic
Vehicle collision has a car flipped on its side on Whitemud EB over 17St. To avoid queue to one lane, simply take the 17St off-ramp and head straight through back onto the on-ramp to Whitemud. #yegtraffic
The traffic lights are out of service in front of McDavid's. Drivers are surprisingly treating it as an all-way stop as they should (...for now). #yegtraffic
A lovely day in #Albertastan the day after. #yeg #yegwx #yegtraffic #TGIF
Large load to travel from Edmonton to Strathcona County this weekend https://www.ctvnews.ca/edmonton/article/large-load-will-leave-edmonton-on-saturday-night-and-travel-3-nights-to-strathcona-county/
If you can work or learn from home tomorrow morning (Jan 17), I would advise not to head out unless you need to. All of the south side has entire roads and intersections as sheets of ice with snow on top. #yegtraffic
Yellowhead EB at Henday in the west end is apparently shut down due to a jackknifed semi.
Again, they are NOT kidding about that wind!
I'm writing from about 30 minutes NE of Edmonton. It's windy and slick. Careful opening your car doors. Maintain good footing. TURN YOUR FUCKING CAR LIGHTS ON. Don't be an idiot on the road. That wind pushes more than you're used to. Thanks for listening. #yeg #yegtraffic
I don't know who needs to hear this but when there's a foot of snow you're not going to get to where you're going fast. I don't care if you have AWD/4WD.
These systems let you take off fast, but ultimately, we're all stuck with 4 tires braking at the same time. Slow the fuck down.
Flooring it at an intersection is doing no good. You're creating ice and making the intersection worse. Feather that throttle like it's your girlfriend.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
Observed today in #yeg:
1 cybertruck
1 SUV in the side of a building
1 big tough pickup truck (built for Alberta winters dontcha know?!) fishtailing in the snow
1 firetruck with lights on
1 ambulance with lights on
1 cop car with lights on
Several people ignoring "no turn" signs
Just a regular day then.

Woman hurt in crash involving recliner that fell out of truck on Yellowhead Trail dies. #yeg #yegtraffic
The driver FLED after witnessing the collision that they caused. There's a special place in hell for people like that....
Two #yegtraffic rants:
I’d really like it if people could turn down their high beams in the city.
Stop double parking in the bike lanes on 121 Street north of Brewery District.
