SCOOP: Another BaaS platform bankruptcy (yes, it involves troubled Evolve Bank & Trust)

BaaS platform Solid declares bankruptcy; it had partnered with Evolve Bank & Trust, CBW Bank & Lewis & Clark Bank.

What we know:

Solid memorably was sued by its own investors, FTV, who accused the company of manipulating revenue numbers during its Series B fundraise. The matter was ultimately settled with Solid buying back FTV's stake at a 56% discount.

Solid and Evolve have also been embroiled in lawsuits stemming from Solid's relationship with EZBanc, an entity with links to a convicted Russian money launder.

Suits stemming from the EZBanc relationship accuse Solid and Evolve of fraud, negligence, and breach of fiduciary duty, among other allegations.

Now, the company is seeking Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, according to a petition filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware on Monday, April 7th.

🚨 owner of the #LATimes just invited the king of the crypto bros #MarcAndreessen, a man whose VC fund #a16z has backed innumerable scams in all shades of fraud (see: #Yotta and #Synapse most recently) in addition to companies that facilitate incredible amounts of Russian #moneylaundering to join the editorial board.

Patrick Boyle does a good job giving #a16z chief bro and Nerd Reich mastermind Marc Andreessen a hard time for the insane statements made by the latter on the Joe Rogan Experience a few days ago.

tl;dr Andreessen claimed the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau needs to be eliminated because it's "Elizabeth Warren's personal agency that exists to terrorize fintech companies to prevent them from competing from the big banks" (I'm paraphrasing).

Conveniently unmentioned is that one of #a16z's big fintech investments, #Synapse, has lost something like $50-100 million in customer funds and is exactly the kind of company the #CFPB just announced it would try to regulate.

Andreessen's whole performance on Rogan was truly disgusting.

Banking At Evolve?
According to Federal Election Commission filings, seemingly no campaign for federal office had used Evolve Bank & Trust until 2019 - but, by the 2022 election cycle, as Republicans were seeking to recapture control of the House of Representatives, 29
Congressional candidates and PACs supporting them reported having accounts there.
The sudden interest from campaigns in banking with Evolve is notable as accounts tied to political figures can entail higher risk for financial crimes, including bribery and money laundering.
And these risk aren't purely theoretical.
Disgraced New York Congressman George Santos pleaded guilty last month to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft related to his campaign. Tennessee Congressman Andy Ogles recently had his phone seized by the FBI as part of a probe into his campaign finances.

@KimCrayton1 especially when creeps like #a16z are pumping money into companies that more or less convince everyone they're a bank right up until the moment they collapse and everyone finds out FDIC insurance doesn't apply.
