So, I'm in the process of starting a new #ttrpg gaming group playing in #theexpanse world using #yze #yzengine mainly based on #AlienRPG .
Just a quick question to all the #DM #GM out there;
What are your favourite way of starting a new party? Do you want them to be friends since before or strangers? How do you do it?
I have realized that I like to force them together via external danger that they have to overcome together.
My first campaign after 18 years of #norpg I used just that one, throwing all players in jail with orders of execution the next day. They where ofc innocent and the local sheriff was bribed by the #bbeg to kill them. And phase one of that campaign was to figure out why and stop the BBEG from trying to kill them 😎
In this upcoming Expanse campaign, the players will start out on Eros and need to co-operate to escape before they gets infected.
It will be fun to discover how they will escape 😁
I think I have made a decision.... 😎
In my quest for the best rules (for me) to use when #GMing a #ttrpg in #TheExpanse universe. Got selection down to either #BasicRoleplaying #BRP or #YearZeroEngine #YZE.
And the choice is...
*Drumroll*
I will base it on #AlienRPG, since talents and skills are best match for Expanse and require least amount of tweaks to be useable.
I'm also fond of #lifepath character generation, so I have created a draft of a flowchart. Now I need to start to assign actual values to the chart and do some beta testing 😎
I wonder if I'll ever will be ready to play 🤣

The team began a search for a whitewater rafting tour group that went missing.
Thu: Alien RPG
Conclusion to "Heart of Darkness": The team poisoned the alien infection aboard Erebus Station, freed their ship from alien tendrils, and escaped... but may have an unwanted passenger aboard...
So, my thoughts about running an #theexpanse #ttrpg campaign is still ongoing.
But I have narrowed down the options to either #YZE or #brp.
Year Zero Engine has games like #AlienRPG, #CoriolisRPG and newly released expansion #AdAstra. For Basic RolePlaying I will have to turn to #CthuhluRising and #CthulhuThroughTheAges with #CthuhluIcarus as main source for rules.
As a DM I tend to let my players do plenty of dice-rolls, which in turn drives the story forward, where failures can be as exciting as successes.... 😎
But YZE punishes dice-rolling and rolling to often can give high amounts of stress to fast.
I can always do non-stress rolls when my players are in a non-stress situation. But on the other hand, BRP doesn't punish rolling. But still have mechanics for pushing failed rolls and the consequences of that 😁
Anyone out there have tried to run YZE with more dice rolling than recommended?

I just backed DOOMSONG on Kickstarter, for the suitably grubby setting and Forbidden Lands support.
Tonight: Played in a session of Alien RPG. The colony was attacked by enemy forces while also being overrun by xenomorphs. Our band of Colonial Marines cast their lot with an executive from Weyland-Yutani Corp who claims to have a way off this rock... and a cure for the thing growing inside my character. Tonight we infiltrated our own base, and fought our way to the Space Elevator... but our W-Y contact needs something from the lab before we can leave...

I'm looking for suggestions for a fantasy #TTRPG with #DnD feel that DOES NOT have monster/npc stats or target numbers. Watching #CandelaObscura I liked how the #GM only has to focus on story, not tracking numbers. Things I like are #Knave #Cairn classless item slot focus, #FreeLeague #YearZeroEngine d6 pool pushing your roll mechanic, #OSR focus on exploration and random tables, and overall #ruleslight systems. So many. I have over 75 games in print on my RPG shelf that I still haven't tried, and hundreds of unplayed games on PDF from various game bundles.
But that's not going to stop me from buying more.
Planning to finally try out two games in September: Mobile Frame Zero: Firebrands, and Alien RPG.
