The prehistoric chambered tomb Zennor Quoit in West Penwith, Cornwall, rises through the mist from a carpet of ferns. Photo taken from the east on the 4th of July 1993.

Zennor Quoit is a large portal tomb, a prehistoric chambered tomb, this one has an antechamber, close to Zennor in West Cornwall. The massive capstone, seen leaning at the back of the monument, weighs about 12½ tonnes or 12,500kg and is 5.5 x 2.8m. The quoit is seen from the front with the two large facade stones flanking the antechamber. The capstone leans to the right, having slipped in the mid-18th century. The granite stones are surrounded by deep green ferns and grass and a medium fog surrounds the whole area.

Zennor, Cornwall

Any visit to West Cornwall would not be complete without saying hello to the C15th Mermaid of Zennor. Although she sits in isolation in a sea of mediocre Victorian restoration, she is beautiful, inspiring, and mysterious. She holds a mirror and a comb, seen as symbols of vanity.

A bench end with a carving of a mermaid. She has long hair and is kneeling down, holding a mirror and a comb. Below her is a quatrefoil and the sides of the bench end are carved with diagonal lines with patterns in between them.

#FotoVorschlag: Stehen gelassen // Left behind

Irgendwo in Cornwall, auf dem Gurnard's Head bei Zennor, wurde nur diese Wand vom Gebäude stehen gelassen. Ich glaube, sie gehörte zu einem Kupferbergwerk. // This wall is all that's left of the building. I think it was part of the #GurnardsHead copper mine. It's located near #Zennor in #Cornwall

A ruined stone wall with an arched opening is all that remains of a building, now standing in a grassy, overgrown landscape.
