I design things for fun and a living. I play with everything from submarines, 3D printers, airplanes, and electronics.

@azonenberg Do you happen to have the link to the posts that you had the technical details that you were doing on that? Or was it your video on using o-scopes?

2026-01-11

@azonenberg I think that it was you that had come to a conclusion a while back that relatively cheap o-scope probes had a reasonably high bandwidth ~350-500MHz if I remember, but I cannot find the post. Was this you that had been playing with this and had come to this conclusion?

@alec A very nice project. You might also look at is just 3D printing the endcap and tube all in one go. I know that you were woried about durability, but I have not had issues with my ASA pints. This would allow you to thin out the wall as well as make it a flush fit with the OD of the end cap. For that matter, you could print the top cap as well, or have an option to do so. That way, one with a 3D printer can print all the plastic components without having to go do the hardware store.

What can you do for ~$3 in filament? Custom print a shelf to hold your NAS, Router, and Doorbell Base Station.

Over Christmas break, I was able to clean up all of our wireless networking space such that it is a much cleaner installation and in a better location for speed and space utilization.

@pafurijaz I remember in high school history class, the professor was handing back graded quizzes. I had scored above 100% and the other person got a rather mediocre grade. They exclaimed, How is it that I study my butt off and get a poor grade and he sits there all class drawing airplanes and gets a 100%!

Am I the only one that uses drawing to maintain focus during classes or talks? I find it helps me to focus on what is being said while being able to ignore other outside distractions. This was my latest sketch of my Santa hat and an ornament on a wood floor.

@CleoQc @djwfyi As we have already tried keeping daylight savings time and very quickly reverted, I do not think that we are that much more evolved to handle it this time around. I would keep switching rather than go to DST all year round. I am someone that needs sunlight in the morning to regulate my circadian rhythm. Here the sun would rise around 9AM, and based upon that I would not likely get into work till 10AM, and that generally would not go well.

@djwfyi As long as we are getting rid of actual Daylight Savings and not standard time like many confuse, I am onboard!

Continuing with my concept development for an RC 1:72 BMT Defense SSGT submarine.

I have found a clean path for wiring as well as making the fins and propulsor shroud separable. The only compromise is using externally visible fasteners for the shroud.

2025-11-28

No one yet has commented on my error in units labeling. One of my college professors would have marked the problem 50% off for that error. 🙂

Today's efforts. BMT Defense SSGT concept had a rotor between structural components. Challenging for a 1:72 model!

Needs to be:
-Structural
-Separable for assy and maintenance
-Pass wires for control
-Water tight

Not a trivial task.

Had fun over the last few days laying out a hull plane installation for an RC model of the BMT SSGT concept from a while back. I have three different models that will all need an installation like this. I find PowerPoint is a great tool for quick layout.

@MisterHW Looks nice!

Sometimes it is the small things. I was able to design cup and handheld scanner holders for forklifts for some friends. Here is the latest batch for them. About 18hr and 750g of ABS for two sets.

2025-10-05

@hackaday Thanks for checking into it!

2025-10-05

@hackaday Just a note on the server some photos do not show a preview, and others do. This is something that seems to have shown up in the last few months, but I cannot remember when it started.

In the screen capture below, you can see one showing previews and another not showing previews.

@azonenberg You beat me to it. I was just going through your repositories to find the project.

2025-09-27

@azonenberg I might have to go and check this out. I found it interesting to see that I can get a fiberoptic to ethernet for cheaper than I could automotive ethernet to standard ethernet.

2025-09-27

Anyone know where I can get a used Hesai connection box and cable for the QT128 devices that I just got off ebay? Conversely, anyone know of a good Automotive Ethernet (1000BASE-T) to standard ethernet converter for a good price?

2025-09-27

When I go ebay sniping I win...

3 for 3. Now lets hope that 1 of the 3 is serviceable. What am I going to do with 3 lidar units you might ask...? Well that is a great question.

In the words of the wise Tevye, "I don't know".

Ok I actually have some fun ideas to play with lidar odometry for 3d mapping of data points. These devices will allow mapping of large objects that could not be done with my smaller 3d scanners.

I plan on using this with Robot Operating System github.com/PRBonn/rko_lio?tab=
