A snapshot from our recent staff & board winter gathering đź’™

Instead of a traditional holiday party, we shared food, laughter, and connection. Everyone brought a favorite dish, plus-ones joined in, and we played a fun get-to-know-you game by guessing whose answers belonged to whom.

We learned a lot about each other—and were reminded that Aftersight is truly a community.

The early years shape everything.

For a child with vision loss, access to learning, confidence, and independence isn’t guaranteed — it’s something we have to build together.

Monthly donors help ensure children have the tools, audio resources, and steady support they need to grow, learn, and thrive.

We’re 10 monthly donors away from our goal.
Join us by Feb 14 and help make opportunity possible for a child who needs it. đź’›

February is Low Vision Awareness Month.
Millions of people live with low vision or progressive vision loss, navigating work, family, and daily life in new ways.

At Aftersight, we’re proud to support access, independence, and connection through audio news, books, and community. 💙💛

🌟 December Volunteer of the Month: Jim Steckman 🌟

Jim has been volunteering as a reader for blind and low-vision audiences since the early 2000s, beginning at the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind. From rural newspapers on tape to remote recordings from his home studio today, Jim’s work has helped keep communities connected.

We’re grateful for his many years of dedication and for the care he brings to Aftersight. 💛

He has a shaved head and short beard, wears a black shirt, and looks directly at the camera with a calm, focused expression. 🌟 November Volunteer of the Month: Yesica Betancourt 🌟

Originally from Colombia and now based in the U.S., Yesica is a creative at heart — a theater graduate, dancer, storyteller, and passionate accessibility advocate. After years of championing access through captioning and working with the Deaf community, she found Aftersight as a way to combine her voice, creativity, and commitment to inclusion. We’re grateful for her heart, her voice, and the care she brings to our community. 💛

🌟 October Volunteer of the Month: Bob Nettleton 🌟

Bob is a retired custom home builder, a proud Colorado descendant, and a devoted father and grandfather of six. He was inspired to volunteer with Aftersight through his personal connection to the blindness community and his admiration for his aunt’s independence and use of adaptive resources.

Bob’s weekly volunteer trips became a meaningful midweek pause — and a gift to our community. Thank you, Bob! 💛

🚨 Protect disability funding in Colorado 🚨

Funds created by and for the disability community are at risk of being redirected during this year’s budget process. The money raised through disability license plates must stay in the Colorado Disability Funding Committee’s cash fund and remain under community control.

📣 Take action:

We’re excited to celebrate Day Al-Mohamed's 2025 Anthem Award for her powerful documentary series Renegades — a project that shines a light on the lives, stories, and contributions of lesser-known historical figures with disabilities, and the rich culture that connects us all.

We had the opportunity to have Day on The Blind Chick to discuss her journey.

🎧 You can listen to their conversation here:

Huge congratulations, Day — your work deserves recognition. 💛
