Change is often scary, and this is definitely a big change lol, but this is what I want and what I feel I need next. You know, some of the stuff I’ve been through has in the past made it hard to really like myself just for who I am, and looking back I have made so much progress this last year and a half-ish. And like I totally have a lot of stuff I still have to work through, but I am finally at the point where I can look into the mirror and really see me for who I am and actually smile. And I want to feel that way out and about and around other people. To not just like and be more confident in who I am, but to have that sense of joy and peace around all aspects of myself and my identity.

Anyhow, that was a very longwinded way of saying “Hi! I’m going by Andrew now” lol.

So . . . I’ve got some news. (1/2)

So, I’ve never really been a fan of my given name. and due to both life events these last few months and honestly lots of good work with my therapist, I have decided that I’m going to go through the process of legally changing my name. For not just my own peace and to cut ties with some not so nice stuff, but to just not have to be reminded of all the negative associations my given name had and actually like the sound of hearing my own name spoken for once.

Google is working to make the Android Find My Device network more reliable at locating lost items!

A spokesperson for the company shared in a statement with me that they're "actively working to roll out enhancements" to the network over the coming weeks that'll improve the "speed and ability of locating lost items." As more and more devices opt into the network, lost item findability should also keep improving.

The EC is not stupid; they can read the terms of Apple's DMA compliance just like the rest of us, and call out Apple’s bullshit qualifying terms just like everybody else did — like ‘membership of good standing’

“The Commission will investigate whether these requirements, such as the ‘membership of good standing' in the Apple Developer Program, that app developers have to meet in order to be able to benefit from alternative distribution provided for in the DMA comply with the DMA.”

This is the framing Apple wants to sell for their decision to withhold features from the EU, and blogs are parroting it.

In reality, Apple is purposefully withholding these features from the EU, either because Apple are being retaliatory against EU customers for the existence of the DMA, or because Apple (with full knowledge of the DMA for years) refused to build these features in compliance with it.

Apple chose to harm their products in the EU. The DMA didn't. This framing is marketing.
