@deviantollam also, for pelican cases, there's usually a cavity in the handle or wheel assembly that's large enough to hide a tag. All of the Air series cases have the same size cavity too, so it's easy to print a holder.
I break things for a living. Sometimes I try to build things too, but that usually doesn't go well.
ESV staff, former IoTv tech lead, been on a stage a few times, etc, etc.
May contain traces of fluff.

When I said that the PirateBox #badgelife badge wouldn't be available at DEF CON, that wasn't quite true. There is *one*. It's available at the @dcfurs charity auction tomorrow. It's a rev2 prototype. The hardware is fully-functional but the software isn't quite done. It has blinkies, boops, bleps, and is a fully featured wifi router. What's missing is the pirate box application. It will be fully compatible with the production firmware when it's released though.
Not-so-great PirateBox Badge announcement:
Due to RF gremlins and competing responsibilities, the badges won’t be available at DEF CON this year. As much as I hate the idea of disappointing people by delaying the badge, I hate the idea of giving people a disappointing badge a *lot* more. So, I’m delaying release until the badges are properly ready.
I’ll provide more info on future plans and potential preorders after DEF CON.
Sorry to disappoint everyone this year, but we’ll be back next year better than ever!
PCBs for the next (and hopefully final) prototype round of PirateBox #badgelife badge prototypes arrived, so we’re cooking up some crimes on the griddle.
@defcon the provided model is a bit wonky for printing, since the two halves are stuck together with a few merged vertices. I split them apart for easier printing and threw the two halves up on thingiverse if anyone wants them. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6075684
@foone @jeffalyanak Wait, both? I could have sworn there were three USB ports when I looked at it at the flea market. Two USB3 micro-B on the side of the display section and one USB-C on the back of the strap?
Still no idea what end-game looks like, but hopefully there’ll be a batch done by DEF CON. We’ll see ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I haven’t fucked anything up too hard yet either! Just a few mostly minor things. Probably. The differential and impedance controlled traces seem to be fine though, so that’s nice.
Rev1 PCBs arrived last week and most things worked surprisingly well throughout #bsidessf! Some critical parts are still in Hong Kong, but there was enough for it to be functional.
I finally got around to working on a little #badgelife project that’s been rattling around in my braincase for a while. The premise is pretty simple - slap an OpenWRT module and some batteries on a board and throw a Pirate Box app on it.
