Mastodon will update to 4.0 soon! Here are the most exciting new features (in addition to fixes & changes):

- ability to follow hashtags
- ability to filter by language
- ability to translate posts
- ability to post HEIC files (i.e. your iPhone’s native photo format)
- define user roles (big deal for admins)
- define sign-up process on your Instance (admins again)

@schwellenbach You can block whole servers if they are full of people who are clearly out to cause trouble.

@tesmaia Yeah, the admins will need to do a server upgrade soon to handle the influx of new users. It's something that will be less of a problem as the signups start to slow down.

@markkilborn Some servers have been experiencing slowdowns because so many people are joining. Basically the admins need to do a server upgrade to handle the increased load.

@breum @bossforge Probably going to require a server upgrade soon.
