For me a sketchbook is a critical part of my practice - a place for me to experiment with shapes, sketches, colour combinations and painting techniques. Sketching provides me with confidence and allows me to play with ideas before i get to the canvas.

This painting is full of secrets. I decided to share a secret with you.
When I was child I sung for Queen Elizabeth II. She was on a tour of Australia in the 90s and I was part of a school choir.

Got any secrets for me?

My paintings respond to nostalgia and the internet. Typically, the past broke down in our minds becoming something hazy and the media become inaccessible. However, with the internet, everything is accessible at all times. The past is no longer the past.

These paintings start pulling by sampling colours and shapes from different times in my life, which with the internet I can access quickly and accurately. Currently, I am pulling from (90s) animated power-effects, metal core music and neo-tribal tattoos. I don’t think these subcultures are important to understand for the paintings. Instead I look for similar shapes and forms and remix these samples into something new.

I aim to create abstract paintings that are action-packed, dynamic and vibrant.

How do you think technology has changed the way we interact with the past?

We live in an exhausting world of remakes and reboots, and I explore how past ideas, aesthetics, and cultural moments “haunt” the present. I engage with nostalgia and echoes of imagined futures never realised.

My painting revisits the colours and forms of childhood media and teenage music, recontextualizing shapes that still excite me. These energetic forms, once tied to subcultures like anime and metalcore, now shift and transform, moving away from their original meanings.

These reimagined shapes create a sense of non-linear time in my paintings—loops and repetitions blur boundaries between past, present, and future. Through this process, I explore a space where memory, speculation, and transformation coexist.
