I seen some thangs.
@chrisphin @flargh @craiggrannell @gedeonm I never learn™
Targeted marketing gets everywhere these days. I was just Googling how to improve my barre chord technique, and then this ad popped up in my Lemmy feed...
I'm still liking Threads, but it hasn't replaced Mastodon for me; the two platforms have palpably different vibes and constituencies (or at least my corners of them do). I thus find myself living a ridiculous double life across two different micro-blogging services, with neither one getting the attention it probably deserves.
Maybe the problem will go away if/when Threads federates, but there doesn't currently seem to be a date on that, nor even a date for a date.
I tried to keep half an eye on the Apple event, but the way every little tweak and update comes swaddled in superlatives makes it a tiresome effort to try to work out what changes (if any) are actually interesting.
Posted without comment.
@chrisphin The Samsung S Pen has a side button that you can squeeze with your thumb to activate eraser mode, and release to instantly go back to pen mode.
It's a very elegant solution, apart from the fact that the contouring of the pen seems to be the wrong way round, so you have to hold the pen "upside-down" to access the button.
@rochelimit It might be fun to write the script in AutoIt, but that's Windows-only, and I'd much rather do the job on my Mac.
So perhaps the question is whether I'd enjoy learning AppleScript (probably), and whether that would be worth the investment versus doing something billable (much more dubious).
@rochelimit The thing is, when I first had the idea of writing the script, I doubted that I'd still be doing this task five years later. Do I think it'll last ANOTHER five years?
It transpires that during the holidays the council has removed all the car parking spaces outside Scarlett's school. Needless to say there has been no concomitant upgrade to public transport.
There's a script I've been meaning to write for at least five years. It would probably take a full working day to put together, and would save me about 30 minutes a month. Hmm.
(Obviously I mean a computer script, not an Edinburgh script. A stage show ain't gonna save nobody nothing.)
Classic Montem.
@chrisphin Him and Agamemnon.
I'm kinda drifting away from Mastodon a bit, just because there seems to be more interesting, fun content to read on Threads. But I don't feel very inspired to post much myself on either site, as I simply don't feel I have a community of my own to address. That's the main thing I miss from the old Twitter.
@reneestephen Ooh, really interesting - thanks!
@reneestephen What is this drug, please?
I will not rest until my work is done or I get tired or somewhat bored
This looks amazing, and I am definitely nowhere near clever enough to take advantage of it.
I guess the adventure golf isn't all that great.
It's come to my attention that the new lettering isn't even really handwritten – it's a font. I guess the fact that I didn't notice this shows that it's been tastefully done, but now I know it feels even more like a loss of character.
Apparently the change was made because the publisher got fed up of the inconsistent presentations of different translations, so all Roman-script editions have now been standardised. I get it, but I still think the old English text looked better.
