my next door neighbor has a camera that seems to look like a ring… I mean I’m not gonna approach their door for no reason to check if it is a ring, but like… if it is a ring… then oh well, NSA is right by my door.

And I’m in a deep blue city btw… neighbor is a renter and is Black, so… yeah… minority working class inadvertantly have a spy camera on their door

Front door is like right next to each other… like the camera can see me walking in the the path into my own house, it makes a sound when it detects movement and I heard the sound thing trigger even when walking only on my side of the yard

…And my family are immigrants…

so yay, our movements are probably in an ICE database

I had a school trip and someone dared another kid to touch an electric fence… so this kid touched it, but nothing happened.

Then they dared him to touch it again, but like touch it for longer, so he put grabbed the metal wire thing for like 5 seconds… again, nothing happened

I think the electricity was turned off.

Afaik, it uses secure boot and/or TPM shenanigans to decrypt L1 Widewine, so I don’t think emulating it would work.

Btw, Unlocking bootloader on Android also cause the video to revert to SD even if you haven’t replace the rom yet.

“Guilty” isn’t the right word, more like “I don’t wanna be ‘made an example out of’” by the media as “Immigrants living on welfare”, since I’m foreign-born.

(Not first-hand knowledge) I read somewhere that tonal languages such as Chinese make it difficult to express sarcasm the same way Indo-European languages do, with accent and inflection.

First hand knowledge, I’m Chinese American. My mom is from Taishan and I grew up in Guangzhou for the first 8 years before immigrating to the US. My mom uses scarcasm a lot. We speak Cantonese at home.

Example:

“我想去睇橋” (“I wanna go see the bridge”; a euphemism for I want to go to the nearest bridge and jump off to kms, and my mom knows the meaning of this btw)

Mom: “喂,使唔使載埋你去啊?” (“Hey, do you want us to drive you there?”; said in a very unusally happy and uplifting tone, as if she’d be glad to see me die (I mean… not really, I don’t think she really wants to see me die, I hope not, she’s just playing mindgames to “stop me from ‘attention seeking’”, she doesn’t understand what depression is.)

Or sometimes I get mad and refused to eat and mom was like: “哇,係唔係想練神仙啊?亦好呀,慳返啲食嘅。” (“Wow, are you trying to become an immortal being? That’s great, we can save some food”; again, with that weird “fake happy” voice.

And I instictively knew these were sarcasm.

My mom cried in court for a civil lawsuit to “try and win the judge’s sympathy” after the judge had already made a decision that she doesn’t like.

Like it was literally coincidentally the same day as my birthday¹ when that court day happened (¹at least I think so… I went with her to court several times and its hard to keep track of so thise memories might have blended together), like okay WTF mom. What the fuck are you doing? Literally, the judge already moved on to the next case, shut your crying ass, you’re the adult and I’m your child, stop embarassing me.

Literally not even in the courtroom anymore, she cried in front of some court staff, not even the judge.

This isn’t China anymore where people could bribe officials and/or sweet talk them or gain an advantage when you befriend an official, this is is America, she has like a very warped worldview on how thing work. Like wtf how is crying gonna change a judges decisions?

(And no we are not part of the 1% so that stuff doesn’t work either)

I confronted her about it later and she just scolded me and say “that what people do all the time to gain sympathy”…

🤨

She brought me there to help translate since the doesn’t trust the interpreters capabilities, but since I didn’t even have much of a chance to speak, so I was like "hey remember that time when it was my fucking birthday and you told me to do your stupid courtroom bullshit, and my mom was like: “so what it wasyour birthday, I did all the work giving birth to you on your day of birth, all you did was be born”

(Before anyone says go “no contact”, she also had her good moments so I can’t exactly just let go, too emotionally attached)

Oh btw, people born in American Samoa are US Nationals but not Citizens

So bascially they’re second-class Citizens. They are allowed to freely travel withing the US, but cannot vote or run for federal office…

Laws are so fucking weird

edit: typo

On a related note: How harshly was the One Child Policy enforced where you’re from? Like… did you know anyone or heard of anyone that managed to somehow give birth to a 2nd child… especially in urban areas or when the first child is a male (since rural areas had like an exception if the first child was female).

I’m just curious because I somehow managed to survive… like… I have no idea what the odds are to be a second son born during One Child Policy. Like my maternal grandparents had 3 daughters and they also only have daughters. My mom is the youngest so she had children the latest, so when my mom had not one, but two male children, my maternal grandfather was sooo happy, that’s what my mom said.

Like… I have existential crisis all the time…

I don’t think I would’ve been born if the policy was enforced more strictly… like if I was in the north for example…

Do you have any siblings at all?

Thats’s cuz English Language sucks.

In Chinese Language for example: A 美人 (American (Country)) and a 美人 (American (Continent)). But in English both are “American”.

Also so many syllabels converying so few info.

Literally 4 syllabels for “American”

But “美國人” or “美洲人” are both 3 syllabels and already contains [America-Country Person] or [America-Continent Person]

Sorry, no offense to English speakers, but as a polyglot, I just had to comment this xD

When I hear the word “America”, I always have the mental image of someone that speaks English in a non-American (or even non-Anglosphere) accent, and that this person either really likes America or really hates The US, no in between. Like sometimes I picture a person saying “America” in a heavy russian accent I think it just sounds so funny. I think I watched too many movies and I just like the russian accent… it sounds very intimidating and that’s why it had that sort of “cool factor”.

Also, I kinda mix both depending on how my brain is thinking. Sometimes I think my thoughts in Chinese and the “美國” automatically converts into English as “America”, cuz nobody says “合眾國” (United States) in Chinese (at least not in the variants/“dialects” that I know of), cuz it feels like a generic term like “The Republic”, doesn’t make a lot of sense unless referring specifically to domestic politics.

As a Naturalized American Citizen, I sometimes feel like the term “American Citizen” feels like a wrong term, and the term “US Citizen” feels more “correct” to say.

I think that in Chinese, sometimes I hear “民國” (shortened from the full term 中華民國) to refer to ROC and I think “共和國” (shortened from the full term 中華人民共和國) can similarly be used similar to refer to PRC, when used in the context of Chinese history.

We need the other type of school shooters, the type that do the inverse and protect children.

As an ethnic Chinese that have watched a lot of Chinese WW2 movies/tv shows, this kinda shocked me a bit lol… looks like a pro- imperialist japan invasion propaganda poster. (cuz it looks like a rising sun flag)

This would be the equivalent of a westerner seeing a swastica.
