IT'S MY Party... And I'll Stay (in this gloriously gilded dunghill*) If I Want To?

*By Dunghill, I probably mean piles of books, so if you have any birthday requests, lmk and I'll go looking for them!

Pop-Up Propaganda?

USSR-printed book in Czech from 1982 normalizing socialism among cuddly animals who are just SO much happier living together after a big bear destroys their separate homes. Aren't they?

@JeffreyJDean Yes, my point exactly. It looks like pre-19th c. paint rather than dye, but you never know...

@libroraptor The 17th c Kilian/Remmelin sheets might give you more of a hint of the muscle behind the bones, especially in the Adam and Eve figures... here's a U Iowa copy with a digital resource:

@libroraptor Hi there! You might have some luck with the image search on the Wellcome Library site: wellcomelibrary.blogspot.com/2 Those links are outdated, but "fugitive sheets" turns up quite a few in the search:

What Luck!

I got to play with this 16th century wheel of fortune lottery book with a rotating dial, implied dice, and a hidden compartment (which the Conservators there kindly opened up for me years ago) while I was @hab_wf! Here's the full video... youtu.be/dBJFllm54YI?si=4Vnznm

This sheet is part of a collection of 17th c. German death notices bound together, many of nobles. But this one, from Feb. 24, 1684, may be so unusually printed as it mourned Friedrich Georg Hamm, youngest son of the book printer at the "world famous" Julius University (Helmstedt). It's not clear how old FG was when he died, perhaps almost adult; his father, Georg Wolfgang Hamm, was 35. His mother, Anna Maria Matthies, is mentioned, and there's a poem.

This exceptionally rare 17th c. death notice is printed in white on black paper with a deep bite. Just ... stunning.

This 1590 hunting book (French but verteuscht) starts with the tracking basics, but ends up somehow with a cervine ghost on its hands... then there's the relic-like presentation of the disembodied horn trophies! #NewberryLibrary i-share-nby.primo.exlibrisgrou

What a great 45th International Summer Course at #HAB_WF! We have captured some impressions in a video: Stephanie Leitch, @DrKarrSchmidt and Michael Korey talk about the course, its contents and their favorite objects: youtube.com/watch?v=dBJFllm54Y
