@ksmallgallery it never occurred to me to use my Monotype matrix as a paperweight. Mostly because I’m afraid that one of the kids would pick it up and flip it over.

OMG there is a vintage HAMILTON drafting table on Marketplace. The entire tabletop is one huge lightbox. This would be so amazing if I hadn’t replaced my lightbox work with Procreate.
@monokrom so it’s a design contest, entrants are guaranteed to win, and they don’t have to design a pretty poster to submit? That seems like a great deal!
I’m not sure if this is intentional or if the web developer built the site and never tested it.
Why do so many in-demand design books get one print run and stay out of print forever? If a book sells for three times the cover price year after year then surely it’s worth reprinting.
If another old book collector doesn’t die soon I’m going to have to take a vacation to a few big cities in India to feed my rare book collection.
@ECS talk to a lawyer who will take a case on contingency. The best way to expose them might be a lawsuit.
@MauriceMeilleur the Norton cover is friendly and inviting, the other cover looks like an old textbook.
@cjtype the types are probably knockoffs. Knockoffs with obvious names were common with photo type, the same probably happened with some foundry types.
@Fontnerd @nicksherman @btuttle @colinmford @nsmsn @guy.77 Matthew didn’t sit with the rest of us. He got a great seat over one of the dugouts.
@letterror Adobe also has a Creative Cloud Cleaner app that will clean out everything.
@letterror try starting it while holding shift+opt+cmd+control to delete all preferences
@PereFarrando Clearface (MF Benton, 1905–1911). @klim’s Family is a wonderful typeface based on Clearface.
are dyson vacuums from dyson spheres
@typographica @ihazrabies hygienic dog food is an interesting concept. A wise man said “What cats will bury, dogs will eat.”
@onpaperwings I honestly think that Papyrus is a gorgeous font and it isn’t Chris Costello’s fault that people decided to use it for fucking everything.
Here’s a type design tip for all the graphic designers working on their first custom font. A “W” is not an inverted “M.” And if you’re doing it for effect, don’t, it’s not a novel idea and it looks like shit.
@jenskutilek there are literally hundreds of thousands of fonts on MyFonts. I wouldn’t exactly call them “scarce.”
My type design aesthetic is shifting to obscuring type with layers of images so people have to go look up the typeface to find out what it actually looks like.
For years everyone has been making web sites mobile friendly. Maybe it’s time to make them mobile hostile. Web sites that users have to really sit down and pay attention to at a desk instead of in between Tikitok videos.
