Coming soon to a beige party near you...ok, I'm here.

Rarely serious, but seriously believes everyone has a right to be who they really are.

Some Toots dramatised for comedic effect.

Avi: Me, white 50-ish male with a blue polo shirt, pointing at the camera, sporting a fine piped-on moustache made from royal icing.

French-speaking Irish Yorkshireman.

Granddad... What was the end of the last century like?

Ah yes... girl power, affordable housing and food, people still had hopes and dreams. Climate catastrophe was the hole in the ozone layer and everyone rallied around to fix it by changing their fridges and their hair. Instead of smartphones we all had a Teddy Ruxpin and the passage of time was marked by David Beckhams new style. The Royals were beloved and all the bigots were easily identifiable. Where the choc ices flowed and we knew nothing of the Findus horrors. Where Ai was only in films and the most evil global leaders were mainly fictional and lived in secret volcano bases. Back then, the news came on once a day and you could simply miss it. Opinions were formed quietly, in pubs, and then left there. Billionaires mostly wanted to go to space in books. Algorithms didnโ€™t raise our children, and the word โ€œinfluencerโ€ meant someone who sold you a dodgy aftershave in a department store. We thought the future would have flying cars. Instead it has delivery apps, anxiety, and a fridge that emails you to say youโ€™re still poor. But yes, child. It was a simpler time. Now fetch Granddad his meds and log off before the toaster joins a think tank.

@internetsdairy Anyway, whatever you do, @TheBreadmonkey , do not attempt to get anything out of the dryer in case you get stuck, in every sense of the word...

@internetsdairy @TheBreadmonkey This is exactly where my brain immediately went too. This says something about us. I suspect it's not a *good* thing...

LinkedIn is just a dating site for sad business men and reply guys.

Prove me wrong

2026-01-01

@Tattooed_Mummy True. It's also a site that has almost managed where many others have failed - to monetise the job market for job _seekers_ rather than just job advertisers by cornering the market then essentially locking key features that job searchers need behind their premium account paywall. It's illegal for agencies and other types of organisations to do this in the UK. I've been job hunting recently and it's absolutely disgusting how they've fucked the whole process to cream cash off desperate people, and screwed the process up at the same time. For what good it will do, I've emailed my MP to see if they plan to do anything about it. I'm also reading "Enshittification" by @pluralistic at the moment which gives detailed explanations of how tech companies do this shit.

Edit: I mean it's illegal for agencies and other organisations in the employment chain to charge job seekers, but not sites like LinkedIn. Also, we have controls around "market cornering" behaviour in the UK, but sites like LinkedIn can avoid legislation.

@TheBreadmonkey same to you, Benfold!

@Nickiquote you mean like:

What did St Patrick say when he drove the snakes out of Ireland?

"Are ye alright in the back there, lads?"

@TheBreadmonkey Not at all - you just need a good anti-emetic on the list.

@Tattooed_Mummy yeah, definitely like more guns. Want to reduce disease? More viruses.

I am begging, begging, begging cool people making cool things to please have any presence on the web other than Instagram.

2025-12-14

@TheBreadmonkey @bodger @maxleibman I attempted to hack his account to get revenge on your behalf but also followed him and don't know how to unfollow him, so...

2025-12-13

@Tattooed_Mummy ๐Ÿ˜‚ that's a great start to one!

2025-12-13

@Tattooed_Mummy Maybe this year, edit one of those "round robin" emails you received last year from someone - it would have said something like "Tarquil and I have made the decision not to send Christmas cards any more due to the terrible impact they have on our beautiful planet. Please find attached instead a digital copy of our traditional Christmas family newsletter, including some hilarious photos we created with that new Chat-gpt app. Best wishes from me, Jocasta and from Tarquil, William, Jasper, Isabeau and the spaniels". Change the names to your own and send it on. This is surely the modern equivalent?

#PSA: If someone says they accidentally reported you, it's a scam.

If someone says you need to verify your Mastodon account, it's a scam.

If someone says you need to change the email address on your account, it's a scam.

If someone tries to lure you off-platform to Discord or Telegram, it's a scam.

If someone jumps into your replies or DMs with a mutual aid request, it's a scam.

If someone from mastodon.social sends you an unsolicited DM, it's a scam.

---

Telltale signs of a scam:

- wants you to move off-site
- wants you to change account settings
- wants you to click something
- unsolicited private interactions
- new account
- under ~20 followers and over ~5:1 follow ratio
- sense of urgency
- appeals to your compassion
- piggybacks on a trending post or event

The thing about trauma is, you can carry a shit ton of trauma with you and have no clue that you have that trauma in the first place. Part of living in a world that fosters and generates trauma, is that these systems invest a lot of time and energy in shaping you to think these systems have never traumatized you. That is the nature of the abusive systems in which we exist.

elhadjimurad boosted:

โš ๏ธ Scam alert: if anyone ever asks you to "temporarily change" the email address on your Mastodon account, DO NOT DO THIS.

There is currently a scammer posing as a server admin telling people to temporarily change their Mastodon account's email to an address supplied by the scammer. This is a scam, don't do it.

Real admins will NEVER ask you to do this.

You can see examples of this scam in the thread at ohai.social/@redsad/1157080301

(Thanks @markwyner for the warning about this! ๐Ÿ™ )
