@Whiskeyomega They really do! And it wasn't always the case. Pastille enshittification.

@Keironmb I'm local. I'm disinclined to travel too far to gigs these days - London or Oxford at a push, & like a smaller venue tbh. Some of my mates now only go to sit down gigs, but I'm not (yet) that bad, at least 😄

It's my first Face Bar gig for many years, & my first in the big room. It was pretty decent tbf.

@Keironmb I was there too! Very enjoyable, though the number of people who spent 30%+ of the gig filming it did my bloody head in (grump, grump, grump 😂).

@philkindermann OK, thanks for sharing Phil 👍

@philkindermann Thanks! Says Friday on Union Chapel website? Is today a pre-sale?

@philkindermann @Doctor_J_ Any UK dates, Phil?

@caskfan Those were the days...

I was reading the Spangles article on Wikipedia ( en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spangl ) & was shocked to learn that Tunes (a related brand) have gone the way of the dodo as well! I'm so out of touch 😄

@revivalrecords I have no doubt you've already seen this, but for some reason it came to mind when reading this thread 🙄 😄

Two blokes looking at a vinyl hi-fi set up. One says to the other: "The 2 things that really drew me to vinyl were the expense & the inconvenience".

@philkindermann Definitely my favourite Decemberists album 👍

@davscomur I have never watched the Nicholas Cage remake of The Wicker Man for (I suspect) similar reasons, and I remain resolute on that score.

Ditto: Babe - Pig In The City.

You can't improve on perfection.

Today's #TuneTuesday theme is #Tearjerker, songs that make you cry.

I'm emotionally incontinent. By the time I get to the end of my viewing of "It's A Wonderful Life" later this week I will be a desiccated husk.

But I struggled to think of a song guaranteed to make me cry. Eventually I re-listened to this country inflected tune &, yes, my lip did quiver. If I'd been drunk, & maudlin, it would've been a done deal.

SKY SMEED - LUNKER BASS

An idyllic yesteryear; the passing of time; loss. All crammed into a simple 2 minute song about fishing. How has this got < 5k views in 7 years? Pah.

Currently Wetherspoons is paying me to have a free burger & chips with every drink...

A Wetherspoons app order for a Leffe Blonde. Currently £6.56 when bought on its own.

However the Manager's Special burger & chips (including an alcoholic drink - here, a Leffe Blonde) is £5.85!

You'd be a fool not to etc

@philkindermann On my first day at work, way back when, the train door was opened for me by Tim Brooke-Taylor. It was an auspicious start to an inauspicious career 😄

@philkindermann Wasn't even aware of the existence of this band, I'll have to check 'em out, thanks!

Pies 'n' Prog on a Thursday night: consider my boxes ticked!

The Notorious P.I.G. (noun): A pulled pork & Cajun potato pie, speciality of Winchester pastry purveyors 'Piecaramba!'

A Formal Horse (noun): A criminally underappreciated musical combo: an unholy mash up of gnarly prog, wiry metal, impossible math rock & winsome indie.

Put aside your prejudices, 'twas joyous stuff!

Four piece band A Formal Horse. The three male, suited musicians have now partially jettisoned their formal business attire ('cos it's bleedin' hot).

The drummer, who looks like he's called Derek & works in accounts, has his tie around his forehead. He looks a steady sort who's just about to go full Michael Douglas in 'Falling Down'.A pulled pork & Cajun spiced potato pie (aka 'The Notorious P.I.G.) on a of bed cheesy mash. In the background, because it's a mildly funky establishment, is a monitor with retro video game 'Ropey Rampage'. I'm trash at video games so I didn't even attempt to play it.

On the wall behind is an outsized reproduction from the Modesty Blaise comic strip of yesteryear. Four piece band A Formal Horse nearing the end of their set. The stage is bathed in a violet light. The female singer is sat on the stage while the band do their tricky time signatured thing. Unseen, the audience 'ooh' and 'aah'.

It's that time of the week.

@WiteWulf That Cardiacs gig was back when we were still trying to impress each other. She does her own thing these days! 😄

Having said that, we have our first joint gig in years on Thursday. There could conceivably even be Cardiacs fans present. She'll probably hate it 😂

Today's #ThursdayFiveList theme is #TheFall. I've seen a few mentions of the band of that name, but the songs chosen don't seem to be on topic.

So here, for fans of The Fall who are having their hashtag overrun, are 4 of their songs that do have 'fall' in the title. And one song about Mark E Smith. And The Fall.

If you *do* like #BSG, this is another fan creation that also makes me smile.

4 & a bit series compressed & reimagined as a 4 minute, 16-bit graphic RPG.

#BattlestarGalactica

This #TuneTuesday’s theme is #SciFiSongs

My selection: Dave House's 10 song pop--hardcore EP about the (excellent) early 2000s remake of 'Battlestar Galactica'.

Totalling 8m 23s it's pretty disposable stuff. But I'm a simple soul & it makes me smile.

Tracks include "(I Wanna Frak You) Starbuck", "Major Lee Buff", and "(It's A Tough Life Being A) Hybrid".

Here's a sample - honestly, don't bother if you've never seen the show. If you have, but hate the song, you can curse me & say "that's 53 seconds of my life I'll never get back".

THE FINAL FIVE - BOOMER'S PLAN

"Sleeper agent, she didn't know, she had more in common with Nintendo..."

PS> This is My Space era stuff. The only place I can now find it is archive.org.

The front cover of The Final Five EP "Galacticore".
