More #theradioinstance news on supporting and paying for this instance.

The server was started with a goal to create a place where Australian creators, podcasters, bloggers, writers, filmmakers, photographers, could create and share on their own terms - not on Twitter or Meta's terms.

Part of that is about actually investing and knowing the business model behind your social network.

No-one, creatives included, has to pay to use this instance. But if you see value in it and would like to invest into a social space where you want to be active, there are links on theradio.au/about to either invest as a creator or simply financially support the server.

If Mastodon feels wrong, it's just the shock of the new, it begins to feel normal after a week. You'll be fine.

"In sleep, I cling to Dad. His AK-47 assault rifle, issued to him for personal protection, lies between us."

For the last four years, I have been awed at the sheer power of author Yuot A. Alaak's true story in his book FATHER OF THE LOST BOYS. His tale is an eyewitness account of being a child refugee from South Sudan, of trekking with his father, Mecak Ajang Alaak, who led the 20,000 Lost Boys of Sudan to the safety of a refugee camp in Kenya.

The pic below is from 2018 when Yuot and I were doing some radio promo at RTR FM (feat. Bec, the host) - it was the first time I heard Yuot talking about his lived experience and I remember being so blown away by his double bravery: to live through it, first, and then to tell the story to the world in raw, honest and harrowing detail.

I'm excited to be interviewing Yuot as part of Saturday's online author panel - accessible from anywhere in the world. Tickets are free here if you'd like to hear his story: eventbrite.com.au/e/internatio
