Why I don’t travel around the UK as much as I do around Europe, even though getting to Europe is a bit of a pain (thanks, idiots in England):
15 day continuous Interrail 1st Class pass (Adult): €605 (£500)
14 day continuous UK All Line Rail Rover, 1st class (adult): £1387 (€1677)
The Interrail pass includes two “own country” days to get me to the continent, and there is a supplement of €34 each way to use the Eurostar, but it covers almost all of Europe. The All Line Rail Rover covers the UK.
A blast from the past and wonderful to be back at the European Parliament for an inspiring gathering of youth leaders.
With all the focus on the challenges in the world it's important to remember that there is so much good in this world with people working every day to make a positive difference.
Honoured to be working again at the United Nations serving as a Consultant at the UN Environment Programme in Paris.
Over the coming months, I will be working to improve knowledge exchange and help communicate ideas and action towards SDG 12 - Sustainable Consumption and Production.
Working at the UN really is the stuff of dreams and I am so incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to do so twice now, I look forward to making the most of it!
Wishing everyone a wonderful Hogmanay (New Years Eve in 🏴) and and Happy New Year.
As with any year it features highs and lows and many of us have faced some of the lows in the difficult times facing our society, but this moment is unique in that it offers pause for reflection and encourages us to each think how we can improve ourselves and the world around us in the year ahead. Let's move into this new year in that spirit of renewal and seek to answer that call for change.
Happy New Year!
Jacques Delors was a tireless visionary. One of the most consequential leaders of the EU whose values, pace, and scale of contribution - and active post-presidency - continue to inspire. For me, he serves as the standard bearer for EU public service and leadership. RIP.
I love this!

15 years of prison.
This is how the regime “rewarded” my work for democratic changes in Belarus.
But today I don't think about my own sentence. I think about thousands of innocents, detained & sentenced to real prison terms.
I won't stop until each of them is released.

As the longest serving First Minister of "?#Scotland (to date) #NicolaSturgeon has led the nation at a period of major change, through Brexit, COVID, and the Queen's passing in Scotland to name but a few.
I believe we may also see a similar unique role as a 'Former First Minister'.
It's long been rumoured that she would seek to work internationally, her international profile and experience with the UN certainly sees her well placed to do so. It would be quite a remarkable next step is so.
Excited to announce that I have relocated to Paris where I am joining #UNESCO as a Communications Officer for the Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative.
It's an honour to work at the United Nations and to join this incredible initiative founded by artist, activist, and UNESCO Special Envoy for #Peace and Reconciliation, Forest Whitaker to empower young people, children, and residents of communities affected by violence & war.
@CurlyReader I wish there was more I can offer. I've spent hundreds of hours and much money dealing with Brexit-based issues. I've just moved from Belgium to France and have to start all over again. Dreadful episode for no gain at home and certainly none for those of us abroad.
@CurlyReader yes we're pretty much seeing a massive drop in Scots being able to come to Brussels for study and work because of this barrier. It's very difficult to be honest, the easiest way would be to get a degree at a Belgian uni then follow up with a post study work visa. But that only works for a few that would like to study then live there. Otherwise you have to apply for a normal visa, the UK/Scottish Governments require that you already have the right to work there.
Great opportunity for young Scots and others to get started working in Brussels! 👇

Next summer there will be long periods of extremely hot weather.
But many streets in Brussel still look like deserts of asphalt and parked cars (while there is place for an entire forest! 🌳)
Climate change is going to come fast now. Brussels is way too slow. #ClimateEmergency

Sadly, this will only deepen over time. Much of the political knowledge within 🏴 polity is based on past participation in EU institutions. With that path closed, the disconnect will only deepen. It's great 🏴 engages with 🇪🇺 colleagues but more substantive outcomes are needed.

The third anniversary of Brexit is this week. Besides restating that Brexit is bad, this is a time to reflect on how Scotland relates to the EU today. The reality is that Scottish politics & society are disconnected from the EU. That disconnect is a choice http://bit.ly/40mr3cm
