Seven years ago today, Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, leading (after a botched response by a racist US government) to over 3,000 deaths.

There have been several other efforts to create #sail powered cargo ships using a variety of exotic technologies, but it is intriguing to see something that is just scaled up conventional #sailing technology used for this purpose.

@reverendref My church is holding a Seven Last Words service. I've volunteered to give one of the talks for the first time! I'm talking on "Woman, this is your son." Not sure how this is going to go, but it's only 2-3 mins.

@fuat2mb @SwallowsAndAmazons Deliberately! It's basically a Dad joke, also utilized by kids trying to horrify other kids. The "flies" are raisins, sandwiched between two very thin cookie layers, almost pastry. They're lovely.

Squashed-fly biscuits are those flat biscuits with currants in them, just the thing for explorers.

@japierce No. It was mentioned in some diocesean communications, including in a general email that was circulated around the parish. The bishop said he was going to be at a showing, but it was during office hours.

This morning the Old Testament reading at church was from Jonah. The preacher touched on whale/big fish translation. I remembered this poem from @jayhulmepoet and the prompting not to miss the point of the story, to see the miracles elsewhere. #Episcopal #TEC
