@nixCraft I have two issues that I can think of.
When I use my bluetooth headphones on my HP laptop they work fine at first. I come back after some time, and Firefox and or the audio system no longer functions. Wired earbuds always work, so I've quit using wireless.
On another system the amdgpu will not render colors correctly to an external monitor. Using the proprietary OS I can force the driver to use 442 RGB, and colors work fine. I can't figure out how to get the FOSS driver to work.
Then: The Internet is designed to route around failure.
Now: The Internet is five companies and one of them is broken.

I had a mess up like this once. I copy/pasted a link with an access token onto my company help forums. I used a tool to keep my token alive at that time. A 'helpful' person used that information to start deleting our entire help base.
I had a reputation for warning about malware so they knew it wasn't intentional.

Every interaction I have with editing documents with Word ends in frustration because the program 'helps' me format the output.

@nixCraft I have not invested effort to understand the different package installation methods. If the package is not available from my distributions repo I won't be installing it via pip. There have been instances where some dep had to be installed by pip. I install it, use the prog, then uninstall it. It's probably self delusion, but I trust the repo pkgs more than those installed via pip.

I so rarely use any of the 'exec' variants that I forget they exist. The use of 'exec' in my usual discipline is also discouraged. By extension I didn't consider that model.
I also don't see that I "downplayed" the model in my response. I asked a question to get clarification. I appreciate you reminding me of spawning external programs.

@demiguru @crandel @restorante @Zenie @weavejester sed/awk/tr and all the others still run in a container just the same as elisp. All of the programs require sh/bash/zsh/some shell to operate. Virtually no one boots to sed.
If elisp were your shell how would that change the sed/ awk/... assertion?

FWIW, I'm running Emacs 30.2, but the cursor has always worked for earlier versions too.

It does change my cursor. I chose "HotPink1" for my cursor, and 'point' is a hot pink block.
Did you remove your set-cursor-color code?
