@NanoRaptor I... I kinda want one now, as a conversation piece.

That makes sense for a lot of fields, and is probably a hard thing for a lot of people to face.

Says a lot for @feral. Not sure what it says about Berklee though.

"Pick a part in the chorus and mute it for the first 2 choruses and unmute it for the last chorus."
I can confirm that this is a really powerful trick. And just to emphasize the subtlety of the advice, this is very extendable. Try not to think in terms of adding things. That's how you end up with crowded mixes. Removing an element can be as (and sometimes more) impactful.
Good call, feral!
I consulted Brian Eno on your behalf. He may be drunk, but he says:
Something else to think about: if the chorus is feeling a little stale by the end of the song, maybe try just using it less. For instance, your first chorus doesn't even need to play the whole way through. See if you can get away with half a chorus before going back into a verse. Or if the track has a pre-chorus, maybe play that first and don't even go into the chorus the first time. Does that make any sense?
If you also use that bridge as a breakdown, that can also make the chorus come in hotter. Something else I've experimented with in the past is to double a lead synth one octave up on the last chorus. You could also see if you can add some super-wide pads into the mix (but this may not be possible if the mix is already pretty crowded).
Oh, wow! Straight in with a hard question! It's always a struggle keeping a track moving, and especially choruses. For verses you can always just sprinkle interesting percussion textures into the mix, but you're right; that won't work for a chorus as well. That said, there are a few things you can try. Adding a bridge before your final chorus can break up the experience. Give the listener something completely different to listen to, and then back for one last 🥳
@debonairetoast @diymusicchat let's do this!
@debonairetoast @diymusicchat lemme know what y'all want to talk about! We can have a group discussion, maybe find a way to screen share a problem one of you is having and solve it together, etc. I'm here you.
@og @debonairetoast Thanks! It's a Gator Frameworks Elite 8U. A little pricy, but I was just shocked at how solid it is and it looks really nice.
@DepressionQuilt @debonairetoast yeah, definitely. So far, these haven't buzzed at me yet. Might become a problem if I swap mics, though.
