Heading home from Twilightmeet in Gdansk - this direct train halfway across the Europe takes almost 9 hours. Time to work, time to think.

Finally, a map of the place and a ticket (for an adult $65) - the locations from the film are easily recognizable: "Great Tide Pool" is an outdoor aquarium, stairs on the left and a view of the "Kelp Forest" aquarium below the surface also on the left. The entire area is much larger - this is a plan of the 1st floor only.

Real scene 7 - the place looks basically the same, except for the institute sign and the chimneys. It's really remarkable how little the place has changed since filming.

Movie scene 7 - a shot immediately after Gillian Taylor leaves the institute in her car to look for Kirk (after she found out that the whales were already gone).

Local exhibition - a sign under the aerial photo of the construction; the explanation mentions that the planned underwater gallery (aka glass view) in the tidal pool (aka outdoor aquarium) was not able to be realized.

Real scene 6 - the movie was probably filmed at low tide, or the bottom shots are redrawn. The concrete wall of the aquarium has also been added (a narrow canal would not make sense).

It is hard to say whether the missing buildings in the background were not yet standing at the time or they were simply covered up.
Interestingly, this outdoor aquarium had a planned glass wall that would have allowed for viewing of life below the surface, but it was never realized (see below).
