@pax@mstdn.social OK you got me! Claiming the network runs on a single load-bearing PCjr (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_PCjr) may not be *completely* technically accurate.

News organizations that rely on user engagement and ads for monetization will always present a slanted view of Mastodon.

To everyone joining from Twitter today - don’t worry! One of the benefits of Mastodon running on a single load-bearing PCjr (in a closet) is that the network completely lacks the computational capacity to DDOS itself.

Hey guys! Elon do anything stupid lately?

I don’t even know how to make fun of Elon anymore

Update: I was informed by an engineer that no one wants that, and it’s not possible on Mastodon anyway.

I fired the engineer an email praising them for their honesty and integrity, and they’ll be getting a bonus next week.

I am truly sorry that your timeline isn’t filled up with John Mastodon posts. Meeting with the engineers now.

Mastodon might take a little effort to set up, but at least you don’t have to pay money to appear in people’s feeds or worry about third party apps suddenly not working.

Imagine relying on a communications system where a billionaire’s underfunded skeleton crew can make one oopsie woopsie and delete an entire city’s mass transit account.

@vanefillubie@maly.io @godpod Can anyone truly know John Mastodon? Even God?

Decentralized networks represent nature, which has no specific “boss,” far better than centralized networks do. The Fediverse and networks like it are a natural evolution of the internet, and they will only get better with time.

I hereby enter my name into consideration for Speaker of the House. Or George Takei, he would be great too.

Elon Musk says 2023 won’t be boring.

Would anyone else be perfectly happy with 2023 being the most boring goddamn year of their entire lives?

From the beginning, I’ve always ensured that Mastodon headquarters is fully stocked with the finest toilet paper the world has to offer: Charmin Ultra Soft.

I promise that my pizza delivery choices will never be materially important to you.

Jerry’s is welcome on Mastodon any time though!

2022 reminded us of the danger of having our communications controlled by a few powerful individuals. May 2023 continue to see decentralized networks grow and flourish. Cheers!

Every day we learn more about the benefits of a decentralized network. For example, if I ever felt like disconnecting “one of the more sensitive server racks," you really wouldn’t have to worry much about it.
