Carl saganβs thought about books:
βWhen our genes could not store all the information necessary for survival, we slowly invented them. But then the time came, perhaps ten thousand years ago, when we needed to know more than could conveniently be contained in brains. So we learned to
stockpile enormous quantities of information outside our bodies. We are the only species on the planet, so far as we know, to have
invented a communal memory stored neither in our genes nor in our brains. The warehouse of that memory is called the library. A book is made from a tree. One glance at it and you hear the voice of another person perhaps someone dead for thousands of years. Across the millennia, the author is speaking, clearly and silently, inside your head, directly to you. Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, binding together people, citizens of distant epochs who never knew one another. Books break the shackles of time, proof that humans can work magic.β

Friendly reminder to stop asking small content creators why they deserve a dollar a month and to start asking billionaires why they deserve billions of dollars.

I cannot keep this to myself. There is a website (radio.garden) where you can listen to radio stations all over the world for free. No log in. No email address. Nothing.
When the site loads, you are looking at the globe. Slide the little white circle over the green dots (each green dot is a radio station) until you find one you like.
I have been listening to this station in the Netherlands and it absolutely slaps.
EDIT: Replies tell me that this doesn't function in the UK without a VPN.
He talked about electric cars. I don't know anything about cars, so when people said he was a genius I figured he must be a genius.
Then he talked about rockets. I don't know anything about rockets, so when people said he was a genius I figured he must be a genius.
Now he talks about software. I happen to know a lot about software & Elon Musk is saying the stupidest shit I've ever heard anyone say, so when people say he's a genius I figure I should stay the hell away from his cars and rockets.
I'm going to keep sharing this info until it sinks in.
Young voters do not get significantly more or less politically activated. Voter suppression gets more or less effective. Ballot drop boxes and mail-in voting, prevents suppression.
People do not become more conservative as they get older. There is not an increasing difference between white GOP and Dem voters as they get older.
Black people don't live long, and many brown voters aren't born yet.
Changing things without using a state makes people so uncomfortable. Yet they cling into the state and think it will just get better and that people just need to "vote harder".
"if i replace all the words, is it really plagiarism?"
this argument is known as the ship of thesaurus
Look, I'm not asking you to support my Patreon because my facts hopefully bring a little joy to your day.
I'm not asking because it's cool to support small creative projects.
I'm not even asking because I can barely afford to pay rent.
I'm simply asking because Ruby demands that I buy more treats. I'm afraid to tell her no. She may be small and cute, but she has a very threatening aura.

I laughed harder than I should have at this.
Any tabletop roleplaying game designers here? I designed the 2004 edition of PARANOIA, and now I operate the Bundle of Holding ( bundleofholding.com ), which offers time-limited collections of RPG ebooks.
the year is 2029. the ceaseless march toward media conglomeration continues unabated.
after many hours spent tracing a byzantine web of corporate ownerships, you realize that Disney now quietly owns WikiFeet. "Emma Watson's big toe is a Disney Princess" you shout in Town Square block #467 of the Metaverse.
the nearby crude 3d polygonal bushes all morph into identical Goofys wearing riot cop gear. this is your third strike.

#whyistayonmastodon sounds like an giant undecipherable mess of sounds.
#WhyIStayOnMastodon reads out "Why I Stay On Mastodon" π
(Reason #44 I stay here: my previous requests like this have been generally well-received, proving that most people are awesome.)

"short" is a pejorative for smaller people, and should be replaced with "concentrated"
I think we should invent a term for "the feeling of having something important in the current clipboard buffer"
Totally unrelated, I now feel like I need to dye my hair to cover up the greys again :artsits:
