A new #CORE20RPG design diary talks about lineages, how your choice of lineage traits shapes your character’s relationship to their line, and how the CORE20 system mysteriously inspired another system entirely.

Awesome worldborn concept art by @Kayandp

core20rpg.wordpress.com/2024/0

An illustration of three lizardfolk, one of the twelve worldborn lineages of CORE20: To the left stands a dark-skinned lizardfolk wearing long robes and a shawl draping down from small horns at the rear side of their head. To the right is a light-skinned lizardfolk with head frills and long barbels drooping down from their muzzle, wearing a jacket, trousers, and cape. Both are looking down at a pale-skinned infant lizardfolk wearing a wrap decorated with tassels. The infant is excitedly communicating with the lizardfolk on the left. Arrows at the hands of that lizardfolk and the infant make it clear that the two are signing to each other.

An illustration of three essaruks, one of the twelve worldborn lineages of CORE20: To left stands a young dark-skinned bard with long white hair and visible lower eyeteeth, wearing a loose top and baggy pants, with one leg prosthesis and a lute slung over their shoulder. To right stands an older light-skinned scholar wearing loose robes, their gray hair plaited in long knots and tied up. Between the two, their arms hold up a young child wearing a loose sarong and laughing.

Twenty years ago today, February 6, 2004, I started work on my first freelance editing assignment for Wizards of the Coast — the 3.5e sourcebook “Complete Arcane.”

What a long, fantastic trip it’s been.

(If the shared image comes up lo-res, see the real thing here: drive.google.com/file/d/1Sn8G6)

A cover collage of most (but not all) of the 150-odd Wizards of the Coast books, magazines, and special projects that Scott’s worked on, from “Complete Arcane” in 2004, through the 2014 “Player’s Handbook,” “Dungeon Master’s Guide,” and “Monster Manual,” to the recent “Peril in Pinebrook” adventure for young first-time players.

Not dead, just busy!!! Managed to drag this out of myself in the evenings, so enjoy!

This is probably the canonically earliest drawing I've done of their timeline/story.

#comic #dungeonsanddragons #dnd #bello #embreh #bellochliel #celembrethir #elves

A comic page showing a femme elf slowly waking up in a library, where she's dozed off behind some books. The sounds of soft shoes on the floor rouse her.

Seeing that it's another elven gentlemen she knows, she's interested in how focused he seems at the bookshelf of books and scrolls. She can't help but be nosy, and quietly sneaks up on him. He says, "This one..?" while examining a second scroll, oblivious in his focus. She sudddenly speaks to him, catching him by surprise. "Bellochliel! What brings you to the library so late?" He turns quickly, losing his usual calm composure. "Lady Celembrethir!! Ah, you surprised me- I didn't see you--" his speech bubble fades out of frame, Embreh more focused on his expression: "Is he... nervous?" she asks herself.

She replies: "I was just there - not the first time I've fallen asleep mid-study, I'm afraid." He smiles, still cautious. "Ah, yes." There is an awkward pause before Embreh asks: "Do you need help finding something?" pointing to the scrolls in his arms. "Oh no no!" He replies, hastily putting them away. "I was just admiring such a well-stocked library! But it's late. Perhaps we should both retire."They leave the room, Bello turning to Embreh to bow before turning away back to his room. "Good evening, Lady Celembrethir." "...goodnight, Bellochliel." She replies. They turn from each other, walking away down the hall in opposite directions. Embreh thinks: "I've never seen him like that before - What could he be looking for in those scrolls?" Though she looks back over her shoulder, she cannot see the intense expression on Bello's face.

Happy new year. Hope you're staying safe and sound. ♥️

In the top panel, two figures hold each other comfortingly. They have darker skin and light colored clothes. They lay in golden grasses. The text says "Safe and sound" the bottom panel has a golden sky and clouds and says: "in your orbit"

so I've been playing around with this method in my sketchbook lately: I drew Embreh on the left there (I was trying to keep it really loose and flowy) then started taking little chunks of the remaining space and fitting things into the spaces.

A double page sketchbook spread featuring a number of things drawn in purple marker and ballpoint pen. Left to right: a femme elf in flowy robes, a human jawbone, an arrowhead, a snake head with a double tongue, the top of a human skull, an eye, an angry anthro rabbit and a serpent-dragon.

Yes yes yes I've still been drawing them, of course
#sketch #sketchbook #elves #dungeonsanddragons

A greyscale two panel comic showing two elves having a smooch in the top panel, and in the bottom there is a close up of their lips. One says: "len fauca" which is bastard elvish for "I thirst for you." Please don't make fun of my translation I'm doing my best

A double page spread from a sketchbook. It's a stream-of-consciousness series of images, featuring a hyena, some plants, waves, a biblical angel, a fish, some human anatomy including a skull, a snake and an egg. Some weird, disjointed text reads: "hahahahaha ok oh wow"
