@gjm haha not to worry! It was a wholly unscientific poll to start with, just an idea that I had :)

There are many reasons why AI slop has become the aesthetic of current digital fascism, but one may lie in the competitive and selective logic of AI training itself: GenAI amplifies the presence of those who are already highly visible while rendering invisible those who are already marginalized. AI image generation ultimately fuses mediocrity with power – it's the aesthetic and political triumph of the ordinary and predictable. While it's non-exclusive in terms of use (anyone can generate images) it's highly exclusionary in terms of representation, making it the perfect tool for crowd-sourced propaganda and #memefascism,

– NESTOR !
Non visible, Nestor répond, mais sa bulle contient un message vocal.

For me, that's what Pride events are about. Making it safer for other queer people not to hide in the crowd, but to step forward and join in, and live their lives without restriction or fear.

Everything we do this month should be about that. 3/3

And outside the parade route, outside the riot police, I saw a person standing watching. Not idly stopping to see what was happening, or glaring at the marchers. But standing by the side of the road, grinning ear to ear and waving at the parade with all their might.

And I hope that the following year, that person felt safe enough to step into the street and to march with other queer people, through the town where they lived. 2/

I live in the US now, and it seems June is Pride Month. And I have a lot of thoughts about Pride marches, and corporate sponsorship, and police participation, which maybe I'll try to articulate another time.

But I used to have a job that sometimes involved protest monitoring. And one year, it was my job to walk the parade route, watching a few dozen marchers, flanked by riot police in uniform, walking through a city where the previous year, a Pride event had been targeted by far-right thugs. 1/

Last night I dreamed that I wrote a book of short stories (an actual dream of mine), and I went back in time to send it to Terry Pratchett while he was still alive, and he read it and told me I needed to be "60% less salty."

mltshp.com/p/1R225 “Everyone will not just”

Everyone will not just

If your solution to some problem relies on “If everyone would just…” then you do not have a solution. Everyone is not going to just. At not time in the history of the universe has everyone just, and they’re not going to start now.
