The "other" Westland Whirlwind. Quick little build to get things moving this year.. delightful old kit from 1956 with nice new decals from 2022 boxing A02056V. Maybe for the next pop, Airfix will do something about the clear parts which don't fit well and aren't very clear!

Indulge me in a little #scalemodel #2022roundup? My first full year back into the hobby and looking back it is hard to believe how much water has passed under the bridge. My strategy was pretty much "try it all asap!!", so the 36 projects I completed in 2022 tell a pretty chaotic story!

* 7 planes in-flight/take-off (yes, @beckersmodels is right). The year started with a J10 homage to the 4 leading female aerobatic pilots of the PLAAF and ended with the J20 shooting thru the clouds. Though I think the Buccaneer skimming the waves is still my fave

* 7 planes on the ground: mainly RAAF, IJA/IJN, and the most beautifully ugly Gannet

* 6 nautical dioramas: I think my home base is making 1:700 ships in watery scenes

* 5 misc vehicles: from tanks to a cute little Daihatsu Midget

* 4 flying tigers: a P-40 theme emerged with a couple of flying tigers and then got increasingly weird with egg-scale and macross/warhammer inspired #sf invention

* 3 walnuts: highlight of the year has to be doing a little Kü@übelwagenmagic in a walnut shell that inspired the JMC walnut challenge

* 3 figure-centric dioramas and a 1:700 chess set

Having been round the houses this year, I'll perhaps slow down a bit and focus more on story supported by figures in 2023.

Finally a shout-out to all the scale model #podcast - my main source of inspiration and learning. I don't think I'd be doing this without you all.

成都飞机工业集团的歼20 caught in-flight; the "Mighty Dragon" Chengdu J-20.

This is the Trumpeter 1:144 kit - fantastic detail, though it took a bit of conversion to get it nicely wheels-up .. including a hand-carved pilot!

Finishing a Mitsubishi Ki-46-II Dinah trainer on take-off. I'd never paid much attention to the Ki46, but the more I worked on it, the more I realised it has really beautiful lines - up in the same class as the Mosquito IMHO. The bird-cage canopy of the trainer version is just wild!

This is the 1:72 ARII kit I picked up as a SG$5 bargain. Why are cheap kits often the most fun?!

This time, I decided to try propblurmodels for in-flight effect, and I really like it. I think I could push the fade of the painting even further for more realism.

I used some Hasegawa airmen figures - navy not army, but after all the careful painting, not really visible through the canopy anyway!
