Aujourd’hui, le 6 décembre, marque le triste anniversaire du massacre de 14 femmes à l’école polytechnique de Montréal par un homme misogyne et anti-féministe. Ça devrait être pour ça notre “je me souviens”

Today, December 6, marks the sad anniversary of the massacre of 14 women at the Montreal Polytechnic School by a misogynistic and anti-feminist man. That should be the reason for our "Je me souviens".

#FindsFriday! Glass beads were a luxury product in Bronze Age central Europe. These 3,000 year-old beads were found in the pile-dwelling settlements of Sipplingen and Hagnau-Burg at Lake Constance. They were probably made in the Alpine foothills from raw glass imported from Italy

We're discussing hydroelectricity tomorrow in my History of Québec class.

EDIT: the quote is in Caroline Desbiens, Power from the North: Territory, Identity, and the Culture of Hydroelectricity in Quebec (2013)

#Québec #colonialism #history #development

Printed text:
There are two ends to a hydro line. There's the luxury end, the comfortable end. Lights, heat, cooking, there's music coming out of the other end of the line. But at our end of the line, we don't hear music. We hear destruction. Dynamiting of our rivers, dynamiting our cliffs, dynamiting our land, blowing up our land. Huge, monstrous vehicles ravaging the land. That is what we hear at the other end of the line.

#canadiana #montreal #quebec #canadianart #histoire

Found my Great-grandmother’s death memento card, with an actual photo printed and glued to it. I find it’s very touching to see her face. Her name was Eva Boisvert from Terrebonne.

@AnnaAnthro Who are the Oompa Loompas in this remake?

2024-10-21

@clive I was just thinking how wandering poets and singers seem to have existed for millennia, there must be really many examples across time and space :) There is a poem dating back to Ancient Greece where the poet (who sang) was hired by potters to sing for them and he is calling to Athena to curse them if they don’t pay for his services. Seemed very relevant!

@clive does it have to be American?
