"...I hold the roof up over our heads, this moment. I keep the walls from closing in upon us. I keep the ground from opening beneath our feet..."
—Ged, The Tombs of Atuan
I won over $28 from Facebook this week in class action litigation...
Oh yeah, that's right. Hit 'em right where it hurts...one less sandwich and latte for them...
I am not a "tech critic". I am an antifascist, a feminist, an anticapitalist, an engineer. My criticism of tech flows from my politics and values. Not from a desire to save or destroy tech. Tech is an expression of power and that's what the whole conversation is about.

I get up from bed, searching…

I discovered a small toad living under a rock.

And, it spoke—its thoughts lasered directly to my brain, like a surgeon's hi-tech scalpel: "When facing a big decision, just imagine how each choice affects your heart."
And I thought—yeah, big advice coming from someone living under a rock.

CNN editor-in-chief Mark Thompson, following a While House meeting, sought to soften the news network's coverage of President Trump's demolition of the East Wing, claiming viewers aren't that interested in the story, according to the Status newsletter.
Might make it a goal to write a small chapbook of seasonal haikus just because I can.
After abuse, the abused typically end up in 1 of 3 states: i) Sometimes abused persons/peoples break down and go mad, becoming dysfunctional, ii) sometimes they transcend their abuse and become heroes—trying to protect others from a similar fate...
...or, iii) sometimes, they become the abusers themselves.
"AI models may be developing their own ‘survival drive’, researchers say" - Guardian
The "research paper" was a tweet by an AI company
The "experiment" was asking the LLM to shut down
A model is ~not~ shutdown ~ever~ by asking a model to shut itself down
*The only possible response is a hallucination*
You shut down a model by turning off the deterministic software running it; so works every time w/o fail
Yet Guardian's shill tech writers just report AI industry tweets as if it was fact
Hypothetical: What if all the free, personal time you spent on, and obsessing over, #Technology—at some point in the future after a major societal collapse—turned out to be just a wasted timesink?
@RenkeSiems@openbiblio.social @benroyce@mastodon.social And this is why the oligo-bros are pouring so much money into it. If they can get everyone to accept whatever "AI" tells them as "reality", then they can rewrite "reality" however they want. It's straight out of 1984.
If this all keeps up, I may have to follow myself...
This reminds me of a self-help group I used to attend.
I'm so busy today, I probably don't even have time to create AI videos of myself in a poop jet.
